Notes for: August Bodine

From Ronny Bodine:

August Bodine lived 1900-1910 in Dallas County engaged in farming. He reported in 1900 that in 3 years of marriage his wife had borne 2 children, both of whom were then living with them. In 1910, he reported that his wife had borne 6 children, but only 4 were then living. In 1920, he lived in Van Zandt County and in 1930 in Dallas County. August Bodine reported he was born in Mississippi for the four censuses from 1900-1930, yet his obituary states he was born near Irving. The Texas death certificate (no. 1939-54620) of August Bodine reflects his parents as A. Bodine of Sweden and Margaret Olson of Sweden and August's birthplace as Tennessee. The informant was his son Charlie Bodine of Grayford, Texas.

Subject: Edna Mae Bodine

Dave,
I have been examining your website. Wow, what a find! Thanks for all your work.

I am a descendant of Charles Bodine who immigrated from Sweden. I am the great-great granddaughter of August Bodine. Under him, you have listed his daughter Edna Mae Bodine. Her death information is not correct and I would like to give the correction.

Because as an adult she began using her nickname exclusively, the trail through census records etc. becomes convoluted. Beginning with the 1930 census, she is listed as Birdie Bodine Hearn. She acquired the nickname Birdie from her father because she would stand on the storm cellar and flap her wings like a bird.

She died on 16 Aug 1982 in Dallas, Texas and his buried in the Bodine plot of Sowers Cemetery in Irving, Texas.

There is another Edna Mae Bodine in Ancestry which adds to the confusion.

August had an another daughter, Lillie Mae, who was married twice. I notice that you do not have her first husband's name; it is Samuel Lusk Bartlett, b. 13 Sep 1892 in Van Zandt County, Texas d. 10 Apr 1977 in Dallas, Texas; buried in Grove Hill Memorial Park, Dallas, Texas. Although Lillie Mae was my grandmother, I do not have the information concerning this first marriage.

Happy I am able to contribute to your site,
