Shelbyville, Ill., May 25.---Solomon R. Downs of Ridge township and Miss Lucy Bodine of Shelbyville were married Wednesday evening, by the Rev. J. L. Douthit. The ceremony took place at the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Sturgis, where the bride had been employed for the past four years. Mr. Downs is a son of Josiah Downs, and is an industrious young farmer. Mrs. Downs is a daughter of the late Lafayette Bodine. They will reside on a farm in Ridge township.
On 17 Sept 1918, Soloman Robeson Downs registered for the World War 1 draft in Shelbyville, Illinois. He reported he was born 31 May 1880, worked as a farmer, and Lucy Downs, his wife, was his next of kin. In 1930, Salmon and Lucy Downs lived in Clarksville, Shelby County, Illinois engaged in farming.

Mrs. Lucy Jane Downs, 53, wife of Solomon Downs died at 1 a.m. Sunday at her home east of Tower Hill. The body was removed to the Stumpf Funeral Home at Tower Hill. Mrs. Downs was born August 15, 1887 in Richland Township, Shelby County, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lafayette Bodine, now deceased. She married Solomon Downs May 22, 1912. She had been confined to her home for the last five years. She was a member of the Richland Baptist Church. Besides her husband she leaves the following children, Mrs. Opan Jenson of Long Island, N.Y.; Robert of Stonington, Ray of Chicago, Cecil of Decatur, Mrs. Carl Owens of Shelbyville and Katherine, Ralph, Clyde, all at home. She also leaves three sisters, Mrs. Ella Rawlings of Decatur, Mrs. Ely Sidemore of Shelbyville and Mrs. Gayne Martin of Strasburg. Funeral services were held Tuesday May 20 in the Henton Methodist Church with Rev. Tate officiating. Burial was in the Henton Cemetery.
