Daniel Ray Bodine: Man chased by deputy dies in crash
A man who was being chased by a Riverside County sheriff's deputy crashed and died Saturday morning. At 2:13 a.m., the deputy attempted to stop a 2008 Honda Civic suspected of having a drunken driver at Winchester Road near La Alba Drive, according to a Riverside County Sheriff's Department news release. The driver fled north on Leon Road toward Scott Road at a high rate of speed, the release said. The Honda swerved into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with two Winchester women in a 2005 Chrysler Sebring at Curzulla Road. The driver of the Honda, later identified by Riverside County coroner's officials as Daniel Ray Bodine, 18, of Murrieta, was killed on impact, according to the release. An ambulance took the seriously injured women in the Chrysler to Inland Valley Regional Medical Center in Wildomar. Deputy Craig Roberts said the California Highway Patrol is investigating. He did not immediately know how fast the cars were going or how long the chase lasted. The identities of the driver of the Honda and the two women in the Chrysler have not been released. Anyone with information may contact the Riverside County Sheriff's Department at 951-696-3000.
