Transylvania University honors Mrs. Eula Rowlands
.....Mrs. Eula Bodine Rowlands of Central City was honored recently by being named a charter member of the Robert Barr Society of Transylvania University of Lexington.
.....Mrs. Rowlands, who celebrated her 88th birthday this week, taught in the Central City School system longer than any other teacher in history. In several cases, she taught three generations of the same family during her long career as a teacher.
.....Her late husband, Dr. W. H. Rowlands, was pastor of the Central City First Christian Church for several years.
.....It goes on to describe the award and the university...A unique organization in the long history of Transylvania, the Robert Barr Society was founded to recognize those alumni who attended 50 or more years ago, and to formally thank them for their long and continued support of Transylvania.
1. Eula Bodine Rowland had placed in her family history files a note she had handwritten as follows: "Isaac Bodine must have died in Nelson County, Kentucky since his will was probated in Nelson County on November 16, 1818. He left his widow, Elizabeth. He named his children in his will in this order: Charles, Cornelius, Jacob, Isaac, Asher, Lawson, Mary Skinner, Catherine Owsley, Elizabeth. "Jacob was my great-grandfather. He married Jane Wickliffe of Muhlenberg County. Their children were Robert Wickliffe and Margaret and one other whose name I do not recall. Jacob and Jane are buried at Bevier, Kentucky in Muhlenberg County."
"Robert Wickliffe Bodine, my Grandfather, married Sally Ann Sharp February 17, 1856. Their children were James Robert, my Father, and Sally Ann. Sally Ann, my Grandmother, died August 6, 1859. Robert Wickliffe Bodine died in 1888 and is buried at Henderson, Kentucky."
2. Eula Bodine Rowland had placed in her family history files a note she had handwritten as follows: "Robert Wickliffe Bodine, my grandfather, married Sally Ann Sharp - his first wife - and to them were born Sally Ann Bodine, she never married and died Oct. 28, 1915; my father - James Robert Bodine - was born March 3, 1859, in Muhlenberg Co. and died Sept. 9, 1929, at Central City, Ky. He married Ella Reid."
"Now, Robert Wickliffe Bodine married Hettie Sharp - a double first cousin of his first wife Sally Ann Sharp - and to this union was born a son Jack Wickliffe Bodine. He never married - died in 1916. I think he lived in Henderson, Ky., and died there. And there was a daughter, Louise Bodine - she married Clarence M. Martin of Greenville, Ky. She died - but she had one son, Joseph Martin - who is also dead."
"Isaac Bodine my great-great-grandfather - I do not know where he was born - but someplace in Virginia I suppose. Cornelius Bodine was the father of Isaac Bodine. Mouth to ear conversation I seem to remember that one of Isaac Bodine's sons went to the state of Ohio, where I do not know. Then about 12 years or so ago a nephew of mine read in an Akron, Ohio, newspaper where a Miss Minnie Bodine died leaving a two million dollar estate - with no known heirs - I wrote to the Sheriff - I got no reply."
In another handwritten note, she gave the following information: "Jack Bodine born Nov. 3, 1875, died June 10, 1918. Hetty born July 20, 1836, died Oct. 10, 1916. Louise Oct. 27, 1877, died Aug. 24, 1935. Joseph March 21 1902."

CENTRAL CITY, Ky.---Dr. William H. Rowlands, 89, of Central City, died early Sunday at Owensboro-Daviess County Hospital. Born Nov. 18, 1883 in Plymouth, Pa., he was a son of the late Charlie and Josephine Peuterbaugh Rowlands. He was a member of the First Christian Church, Central City. He holds a Ph.D. degree in economics and a doctor of divinity degree from Butler University, Indianapolis, Ind. He holds seven college degrees and was a senior economist for Franklin D. Roosevelt. He was a member of the Beckley W. Va. Masonic Lodge. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Eula Rowlands; one brother, Oliver Wendell Rowlands of Vestal, N.Y.; two sisters, Mrs. Josephine Pierce of Medina, Ohio, and Mrs. Al Jordan of Port Richaey, Fla. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Tucker Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. C. W. Duncan, pastor of the First Christian Church. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 10 a.m. today. The family requests expressions of sympathy be in the form of contributions to the heart fund.

CENTRAL CITY---Mrs. Ula Bodine Rowlands, 96, of Central City, died Saturday, April 27, 1985, at Muhlenberg Community Hospital, Greenville. She was born in Muhlenberg County, was a restired school teacher and a member of First Christian Church, Central City. Survivors include several nieces and nephews.
