From Ronny Bodine (April 14, 2024):
Obituary, Flint (Mich.) Journal of 29 May 2016.
Bodine, Virginia Alice "Ginny" Flint Age 66, died Thursday April 21, 2016 at Hurley Medical Center. Funeral arrangements being provided by Sharp Funeral Homes Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek. Memorial services will be held 11 AM Saturday June 4 at the Bristol Road Church of Christ 1315 W. Bristol Rd., Flint. Senior Minister Steven Cunningham officiating. A live stream of the service can be viewed at the following website: www.churchofchrist.org. In lieu of the traditional cemetery burial, Ginny requested several years ago that her remains be cremated and the ashes spread on the Ko'olau Mountains on the Island of Oahu, Hawaii. At one point in her life, Ginny lived in the Islands and acquired a deep affection for the Aloha State. Ginny was born in Glenview, IL on October 18, 1949, the daughter of the late Charles and Gene (Strauss) Buzzard. She attended the Glenview school system from K through high school with special honors. Ginny then attended and graduated from the Chicago School of Secretarial Science in Chicago, IL. Her first job after graduation was the assistant to the International Director of the Rotary Organization in Evanston, IL. Her most recent position was an administrative assistant with AIG International in Orange County, CA which she held for more than twenty years. In the spring of 2013 she was diagnosed with lung cancer. As the cancer spread, the decision was made to move to Flint, MI. The move was made to be near numerous family members, and a church that she always enjoyed attending when making Flint visits over the past forty-four years. Through the years, she said on numerous occasions that the membership at the Bristol Road Church of Christ always made me feel welcome and right at home. On October 28, 1972 she married Robert Bodine who survives her for forty-four years of blissful marriage. Ginny is also survived by her brother, Carl Buzzard of Albuquerque, NM; Sister-in-law, Helen Allmond of Flint; and several nephews and nieces. Ginny was a patriot of the highest order. For the past several years she wore a bracelet with the inscription "support of troops" which she acquired from the USO of which she was a member. While traveling, she would go out of her way go approach military individuals in uniform to thank them for their service to our country. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to his Ministry, Bristol Road Church of Christ, 1315 West Bristol Rd, Flint Mi 48507. An Alternate source would be the USO (United Service Organization), P.O. Box 96860, Washington, DC 20077-7677. I want no rites in a gloom-filled room. Why cry for a soul set free? Miss me a little but not too long, and not with your head bowed low. For this journey we all must take, and each must go alone. Remember the love that we once shared, Miss Me, But Let Me Go.
