Notes for: Arthur Bodine
From Ronny Bodine (Jan. 25, 2021):
In 1900, Arthur Bodine was living in Newburgh, Orange County, New York employed as a foundry moulder. His birth date was given as Feb 1872 which is clearly inconsistent with his age of 2 in the June 1870 census. It appears Arthur Bodine is identical with the Arthur Bodine, age 41, who died by suicide in Glen Gardner, NJ on 21 Feb 1910 and was buried in Staten Island Cemetery.
From: The Hackettstown Gazette (Hackettstown, NJ) of Friday, 25 Feb 1910.
Arthur Bodine, a moulder, living with his widowed mother at Glen Gardner, committed suicide last Friday. It is possible that he was a victim of the bucket-shop. By saving and industry he had accumulated considerable property, which he recently lost in speculation.
Obituary, Plainfield (NJ) Courier-News of 23 Feb 1910.
The funeral of Arthur Bodine, 40 years old, who died last Thursday night, at his home in Glen Gardner, from self-inflicted wounds, was held Sunday at his late home and was private. Burial was made on Staten Island. He leaves his mother, one brother, William Bodine, of Elizabeth, and a sister, Miss Sadie Bodine of Staten Island. His father, a veteran of the Civil War, was an engineer on the Central Railroad, and was killed several years ago.
