On 16 Oct 1940, John Walter Bodine Jr., of Neptune City, registered for the World War II Draft. He reported he was born 9 Jan 1915 in Neptune, worked for Schumacher & Kelley, in Freehold, and named his sister, Miss Muriel Vivian Bodine, as his next of kin.

The marriage of Miss May Gladys Trimble, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Trimble, Sixth Avenue, Neptune, to John Walker [sic] Bodine, son of John W. Bodine, Laurel avenue, Neptune City, took place Sept. 10 in the First Baptist church, this city. Dr. F. Russell Purdy officiated.

Neptune---Dr. Julius A. Toren, Monmouth County physician, reported yesterday he has concluded the death of Mrs. May Gladys Bodine here Dec. 20, was a suicide. Mrs. Bodine, 37, of 1717 Broad St., Shrewsbury, was found unconscious in her car and died an hour after she was admitted to Fitkin Hospital. Dr. Toren said a report from the state laboratory indicated Mr. Bodine died from an overdose of sleeping pills. Mr. Bodine was found in her car on 6th avenue. There were bruises on her body. Police found a note in her apartment and another in her purse, but did not disclose the contents.

FAIR HAVEN---Ruth Buckalew Bodine, 49, died yesterday at home. Born in Shrewsbury, Mrs. Bodine resided in the Red Bank area all her life. She had been a cashier for Shop Rite in West Long Branch for 20 yeas. She was a communicant with the Church of the Nativity in Fair Haven. Her husband, John Bodine, died in 1979. Surviving are two brothers, Charles Buckalew of Red Bank and Paul Buckalew of Madison, Wisc.; a half-sister, Ethel Harris of Perth Amboy; and several nieces and nephews. The John E. Day Funeral Home, Red Bank, is in charge of arrangements.

Ruth M. Bodine, born 19 June 1934, of Fair Haven, Monmouth County, died there 14 Oct 1986, aged 49 years [sic]. [Note: Her obituary and death record both note she was 49 years old at death so that her birth year was likely 1937.]

FAIR HAVEN--John W. Bodine died yesterday at Veterans Administration Hospital, East Orange. Born in Neptune, he lived there until moving here seven years ago. Mr. Bodine was a foundry molder for Standard-Keil of Allenwood. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was an exempt and charter member and a former captain of the Neptune City First Aid Squad. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Ruth Buckalew Bodine; two sons, John R. Bodine of Charleston, S.C. and Robert G. Bodine of Neptune; a daughter, Mrs. Margaret Labor of Oakhurst; a sister, Mrs. Muriel Gant of Belmar; and eight grandchildren. The Richard C. Hoidal Funeral Home, Ocean Township, is in charge of arrangements.
