From Ronny Bodine:

Obituary, The Decatur (Ill.) Herald of 21 Oct 1934.
Carl Bodine, six years old son of Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Bodine, 1077 East Curtis avenue, was instantly killed Saturday noon under the wheels of an Illinois Central freight car near his home. His brother, Earl, 9, who attempted to rescue him, lost the fingers of his left hand. The two boys were playing near a string of cars. Carl started to crawl under one of the cars as a switch engine approached. His older brother realized the danger but as he reached for Carl, the engine bumped the string of cars. Carl was knocked down. Wheels passed over the side of his body, crushing one arm, but did not mangle the body. Earl tried to reach safety but his left hand was caught. The body of the dead boy was taken to the J. J. Moran & Sons funeral home. His injured brother was taken to the Decatur and Macon county hospital, where the mother of the two boys is employed. Dr. J. J. Hopkins was notified and will conduct an inquest. Carl Joseph Bodine was born in Decatur, July 8, 1928. He was a pupil in the first grade of the Gastman school. Besides his parents he leaves seven brothers and sisters: Forest, Lora Ellen, Frederick, Pearl, Richard, J.D. and Earl, all at home. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 3 p.m., in the J. J. Moran & Sons chapel. Burial will be in Graceland cemetery. [Note: He was buried in Graceland Cemetery as J. Carl "Goodie" Bodine.]
