Mrs. Mary Catherine Bodine, wife of Forrest C. Bodine, now serving a 20-year sentence in the federal penitentiary at Fort Leavenworth, Kan., for having beaten an army officer, yesterday filed suit for divorce from her husband, charging desertion. [Portion omitted] The complaint states that the couple married Nov. 28, 1938 and they have one child, Forrest Richard Bodine, seven.

Forrest Bodine, 37, a former Decatur resident and a steeplejack, was killed Friday afternoon in a fall while working in Salem, N.J. The scaffolding around the structure broke and he fell 80 feet. Mr. Bodine was born near Charleston on March 17, 1914, the son of James and Sylvia K. Bodine. He spent his early life in Charleston and lived here about 20 years. He leaves his wife, Phyllis; a son, Forrest Richard, his parents of Decatur; three brothers, Jay, Chicago; Earl and Richard, Decatur; and two sisters, Mrs. Laura Ellen Waller and Mrs. George Trimby, Decatur. The body will arrive here at 2 p.m. today and will be brought to the J.J. Moran & Sons funeral home where friends may call after 4 p.m. today. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. tomorrow in the funeral home with burial in Graceland cemetery.

Mary (McCarty) Bodine was the daughter of James and Jesse Esther (Halley) McCarty. Forrest and Mary Bodine were divorced and on 2 Aug 1975 she married Raymond Eugene Drake (1925-2004). She retired from F.W. Means Co. She was buried in Roselawn Cemetery, Charleston. Forrest Bodine was buried in Graceland Cemetery, Decatur, Macon County.

DECATUR - Mary Catherine ''Kate'' Drake, 77, of Decatur died 4:52 p.m. Thursday (Jan. 1, 1998) in Decatur Memorial Hospital. Graveside services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday in Roselawn Cemetery, Charleston, with visitation 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday in Dawson & Wikoff West Wood Street Funeral Home. Memorials: donor's choice. Mrs. Drake was born in Roby on Feb. 1, 1920, the daughter of James and Jesse Esther Halley McCarty. She retired from F.W. Means Co. and was a member of the Moose. She married Raymond Eugene Drake on Aug. 2, 1975. Suviving are her husband; son, Forrest Richard and wife Frances Bodine of Decatur; daughter, Diana Acord and husband Jim of Kansas; son, Michael W. Drake and wife Rachel of Charleston; nine grandchildren; 13 greatgrandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, two sisters, one grandchild and one great-grandchild.
