The marriage of Miss Mary Wood Bodine, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Albert Bodine, of Bowling Green, and Lieutenant David Earl Zimmerman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl L. Zimmerman, Essex County, took place yesterday afternoon at 4 o'clock at the Bowling Green Methodist Church. The Rev. B. M. Persinger officiated, assisted by Rev. Robert Meade.

David Earl Zimmerman was "a workhorse, and a leader and a representative of everything that was good at our church," said Rosa Courter Smith, a fellow member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Henrico County. Mr. Zimmerman, formerly the lay leader of the Richmond District of the Virginia Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church, died Tuesday at his Richmond residence. He was 82. Among other activities, Mr. Zimmerman was a founder of Westview on the James, a retreat owned by the denomination's Richmond, Ashland and Charlottesville districts. Programs there include a camp for children of incarcerated mothers and other youth and family programs. A Milwaukee, Wis., native, he grew up in Center Cross in Essex County and attended Northwestern University. He was a former member of the Chicago Black Horse Troop, one of the last cavalry groups in the nation. During World War II, he served in the Army Air Corps in North Africa and Europe. Mr. Zimmerman retired in the early 1980s as an agent with Alsop and Elliott insurance business. He had been president of the state insurance agents' association. He was a member of the Sertoma and Lions clubs. Survivors include his wife, Mary Bodine Zimmerman, and two daughters, Katherine Gerritz of Richmond and Marcia Strange of Raleigh, N.C. A funeral will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, 903 Forest Ave. Burial will be in Westhampton Memorial Park.
David E. Zimmermann, 82, of Richmond, died Tuesday, September 18, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Mary B. Zimmermann, two daughters, Katherine Gerritz and her husband, Daniel, Marcia Strange and her husband, James; six grandchildren, David, Scott and Graham Gerritz, Leslie, Katherine and Spencer Strange. Mr. Zimmermann was a veteran of World War II, an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church, a retired insurance agent, and an active member of his community through service in the Sertoma and Lions Clubs. The family will receive friends 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 Parham Rd. Funeral service 2 p.m. Friday at Trinity United Methodist Church. Interment in Westhamptom Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Trinity United Methodist Church.

Zimmermann, Mary B., 87, of Richmond, died January 25, 2004. The widow of David E. Zimmermann, she is survived by two daughters, Katherine Gerritz and her husband, Daniel, and Marcia Strange, and her husband, James; and six grandchildren, David, Scott, and Graham Gerritz, and Leslie, Katherine, and Spencer Strange. Mrs Zimmermann was the secretary at Trinity United Methodist Church, where she was an active member. She was also secretary to the bishop of the United Methodist Church and a charter member of the Commonwealth Woman's Club. The family will receive friends Tuesday 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Woody Funeral Home Parham Chapel, 1771 Parham Rd. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, 10 a.m., at Trinity United Methodist Church, Forest Rd. Interment at Westhampton Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church.
