From Mitchell County, Texas Marriage Records
James F. Bodine AND Eva A. Terry were married 27 June 1912 by W. E. Lyon, Pastor, Methodist Church, Colorado, TX
Their 50th wedding anniversary was commemorated in the Abilene "Reporter-News" of Friday, 15 June 1962 with the following article.
COLORADO CITY - Mr. and Mrs. Jim Bodine of the Buford Community were honored by their daughters and friends at a golden wedding anniversary celebration June 10. Mr. Bodine was born in Itasca Feb. 3, 1887, and came to Colorado City on the night of January 1, 1906. "When I left the depot and started to a downtown hotel I stepped through holes in the board sidewalks two or three times and finally decided I was going to break a leg, so I went back to the depot and slept in a boxcar until morning." Only two places in town had cement sidewalks, Bodine says. Bodine's father, a farmer and Baptist preacher, settled on the Lay Powell farm. Cotton farming was in its infancy. In fact, Bodine says, the first bale of cotton grown in Mitchell County on the Beeman place was still on exhibit on the old Colorado National Bank corner when he arrived in Colorado City. Mrs. Bodine, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. F. L. Terry Sr., was born in Dekalb, Miss., May 15, 1891. Her family moved to Ranger late in 1891 and then to Sterling City and arrived in Mitchell County in 1905. The family moved to a house on the banks of Lone Wolf Creek, south of Euddick Park, where they lived until the house burned in 1919. Mr. and Mrs. Bodine met while attending school at the Coleman School on East Fourth Street. After the couple finished school Mrs. Bodine taught "expression" for a year or two and then they were married June 12, 1912. The couple has four daughters, Mrs. Sefton Pickens of Valley Mills, Mrs. Lucille Baer of Austin, Mrs. John Dailey of Lancaster, Calif., and Mrs. Bob Ratliif of Colorado City. Their son Jim, died in service of his country during World War II. They have 8 grandchildren. "We never had a bit of trouble with our youngsters," Bodine said. "We tried to teach them to do their work well and to finish a job when they started it. In the summer we'd take a week of and go on a camping trip. We might have to sell a cow to do it, but we went anyway. This was something the kids looked to, and they still talk about those trips."
James Bodine did not die in Texas as NO Bodine is recorded as dying there in 1978 in the Texas State Death Index. The Social Security death Index does list Colorado City in Mitchell County, Texas as his last residence, but he died out of state, likely on a visit, as he and his wife were buried in Colorado City.
