Notes for: Thomas R. Bodine

Thomas Bodine helped to form a Quaker worship group, which led to the establishment of Hartford Monthly Meeting of Friends. He served six years as chairman of the Hartford office of American Friends Service Committee, five years as clerk of New England Yearly Meeting and three years as clerk of Friends United Meeting. He earned his B.A. in European History in 1937 from Wesleyan University. He worked with the Connecticut General Life Insurance Company retiring in 1976. As a conscientious objector in World War II, he served as Field Director, National Japanese-American Relocation Council, and served in War Relief in France. He also served as a Commissioner of the Hartford Housing Authority for over 20 years, was Chairman of the Community Renewal Team, a member of the NAACP and on the board of directors of the Connecticut Prison Association.
