His middle initial on his tombstone is "J."

We had a daughter for Melvin and Joan named Sylvia, but she is not mentioned in either of her parents' obituaries. And I don't see where her name would have come from. It might be incorrect information. Was she a daughter who maybe died in infancy? We have deleted her for now unless someone can give us better information.

Sheldon Stephenson.

RUSHVILLE-Joan F. Bodine, age 90, died on November 12, 2018. Friends may call from 12 to 2 p.m. on Friday (Nov. 16) at the Kenneth J. Perkins Funeral Home in Gorham. Joan was born on August 15, 1928 in Geneva, N.Y. She was the daughter of the late John P. Sullivan and Marjorie Stape Sullivan. Joan was a graduate of the Penn Yan Academy, Class of 46. She married Melvin J. Bodine on October 18, 1953. Joan was a member of the Women of the Moose Club Penn Yan. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting. Joan was once a model for the Bobby Lou shop in Penn Yan. Joan enjoyed working in her vineyards. She ran a fruit and vegetable stand where she readily engaged with her customers. Joan was known for her homemade pies. Joan is survived by her husband of 65 years, Melvin J. Bodine; sons Terry (Mary) Bodine and Steven (Janet Santee) Bodine; daughter, Brenda (Patrick) Hartman; grandchildren Miranda (Brandon) Herod, Erin Vanderpool, John (Sara) Bodine, Stephanie Bodine, Chandra (Matt) LaDelpha, Michael Santee, Matthew Santee, Garrett Hartman and Kyle Hartman; eight great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law Dorothy Smith and Marjorie Rudd; and several nieces and nephews. RUSHVILLE- Melvin J. Bodine, Jr., age 84, died on April 26, 2019. Friends may call Friday (May 3) from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Kenneth J. Perkins Funeral Home in Gorham. Bodine, Sr. and Beatrice M. Chase Bodine. Melvin attended Middlesex Valley Central School. He married Joan F. Sullivan on October 17, 1953. Melvin was a lifetime farmer and vineyardist. He also operated a trucking business and was a grain dealer. Melvin enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a member of the Seneca Lake Duck Hunters Club. He was also a member of the Penn Yan Moose Club. Melvin is survived by two sons Terry (Mary) Bodine and Steven (Janet Santee) Bodine; one daughter, Brenda (Patrick) Hartman; grandchildren Miranda (Brandon) Herod, Erin Vanderpool, John (Sara) Bodine, Stephanie Bodine, Chandra (Matt) LaDelpha, Michael Santee, Matthew Santee, Garrett Hartman and Kyle Hartman; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters Dorothy Smith and Marjorie Rudd; and several nieces and nephews.
