Mrs. Bookout was confronted with making a home out of the old hotel building moved out from Hartley some years earlier. She was an excellent cook and served meals to her family and the large number of men it took to run the farm with the machinery of the day. Mr. Bookout was well known for asking whoever might stop by in to a meal because he knew she would be prepared.
