John Bodine enlisted on 26 June 1847 at Alton, Illinois in Company A, 2nd Regiment, Illinois Volunteers and proceeded to New Orleans enroute to the seat of war with Mexico. He became severely ill and died in one of the New Orleans city hospitals.
