Notes for: David C. Bodine

Here is a picture of David's tombstone in Union Cemetery. This was sent to me by Brian Bodine.

David C. Bodine

David C. Bodine

There is a David C. Bodine whose marriage to a Sarah G. Kern was listed in the Warren Journal, in Belvidere, Warren County, New Jersey on November 15, 1849. The marriage took place on November 6. He was listed as being from Columbia County, Pennsylvania and she was from Hainesburg, New Jersey. They were married by Rev. J. P. McCormick. As mentioned above, there is a David C. Bodine buried in Union Cemetery with Peter and Anna. He supposedly died on September 16, 1853 at age 27 y, 8 m, and 18 d. That would put his birth date at about Dec. 29, 1825. I later got a picture of this stone and the death year looks like 1855. That is also how the photographer read it. I will go with that unless some better proof comes up for 1853.

Now I see that there is a stone for a Samathia Bodine at Union Cemetery. The info at Find A Grave says her parents are David C. and Sarah Bodine. Samathia died Dec. 16, 1855 at age 2 yrs 10 mo and 7 dys. Given this information, I will guess that this David did marry Sarah Kern.

From Ronny Bodine:

On 25 Sept 1855, Letters of Administration were granted to Philip Cool on the estate of David Bodine of Roaring Creek Township, Columbia County. The widow (unnamed) renounced to right to administer. Surety by Peter Bodine & George Hughes. (Columbia County Wills & Administration Records, vol. 3 [1850-1869], p. 166.)

Burials in Union Cemetery, Catawissa, Columbia County.
In Memory of David C. Bodine Who Died Sept. 16, 1855, Aged 27 Yr. 8 Mo. 18 d.

After the death of her husband David Bodine, Sarah married 2ndly John B. Angle, both of whom are named as the parents of Alice Angle Drake in her 1952 Pennsylvania Death Certificate. Alice was married to William C. Drake (1854-1933) and was living with him most of their married life in East Stroudsburg, Monroe County, Penn. In 1930, Emma E. Bodine, noted as William's sister-in-law, lived with them. In Emma's 1933 Pennsylvania death Certificate her parents are recorded as David Bodine, born in Penn. and Sarah Kern, born in New Jersey, confirming that Alice Angle and Emma Bodine were half-sisters with their mother in common.

From Warren Journal (Belvidere, NJ) of 15 Nov 1849:

Note Also.
In 1880, Emma E. Bodine lived with Charlotte Angle in Warren County, NJ. Charlotte was Charlotte Kerns who married Isaac J. Angle in Warren County on 12 June 1841. Charlotte wife of Isaac J. Angle was born 15 June 1819 and died 12 Jan 1898 and was buried in Methodist Cemetery, Columbia, Warren County. In 1860, Charlotte Angle, 41, lived in Knowlton, Warren County in the home of Elizabeth Kerns 63, who must have been her mother. Elizabeth Kern died 1863 in Warren County where her son Alfred was appointed administrator.

Elizabeth Kern was the widow of David Kern who's estate was administered in 1839 by Jehiel T. Kern and Joseph Tillman and an appraisal was submitted to the court on 1 Oct 1839 by John B. Angle and Jacob Beck. Jehiel Kern was the son of David and Elizabeth and in 1850 lived with his mother in Warren County.
