Notes for: David Cotton Bodine
Some information came from the internet. The contact address was Jane Hunter Hodgson: hodgson at azstarnet.com and http://208.199.40.215/genealogy/ index.html. She lives in Tucson, Arizona. This information had children Charles Jefferson Bodine (b. 1870) and Angeline Jane Bodine for him and Melissa. I think that might be a mistake.
RB does link this David C. Bodine and David Cotton Bodine.
LDS says there is a David C. Bodine who married a Melissa J. Widney on November 6, 1869 in Allen, Indiana.
There is also a David C. Bodine and wife Malissa in the 1880 Census of Neodesha, Wilson Co., KS. David is a livery keeper, age 34, born in OH. Both his parents were born in NY. Malissa is 33 and born in IN. Both her parents were born in PA. Their children are Carrie (9, IN, OH, IN) and Grace (5, IN, OH, IN).

I have just began some research on the Bodine side of my family. I know my ggggrandfather was David Cotton Bodine of Neodosha, KS. His wife was Lucinda (unsure of maiden name). I know he was in the Civil war, and returned to KS and was a veterinarian. I am unsure of their children, other than my gggrandfather, John Bodine who married Mammie Faye Smith.

This is not my Bodine line, but I did a lookup for you. It seems your David C. Bodine was born in Ohio, and it looks like he was married twice (from census records)--first to Malissa (one year younger than he), and they had Carrie and Grace in 1871 and 1875. Then in a later census he was married to Lucinda (or Cinda) who was almost 20 years younger. They had the other four or so--including your John P. Bodine. I find David as late as the 1820 census. It looks like his father was John from NY and Elizabeth (1850 & 1860 census in Oh--Richland) although David said in one census record that his parents were from Ohio. Those records are flawed sometimes when the one who "knew" was out in the field and someone in the house just guessed. Good hunting!

I have read your 10 most wanted. I am a Bodine and have some simulatities in my past. Two John Bodine's, a great grandfather from the east coast was in the civil war. His name was David Cotton Bodine. I do not know his rank. I completed a genealogy of the Bodine's several years ago. I will dig it out and let you know more later.

On 6 Aug 1862, David C. Bodine enlisted into Company A, 100th Indiana Infantry (USA) as a fifer (musician). He was promoted to Sergeant and was mustered out 8 June 1865 in Washington, D.C. In 1870, he lived with his wife in DeKalb County, Indiana working there as a day laborer. He lived next door to his sister Sarah Altenburg and mother Elizabeth Bodine. David Bodine lived 1880-1910 in Neodesha, Wilson County, Kansas. In 1880 he was a livery keeper and from 1900 practicing as a veterinarian. In 1900, he reported that in 14 years of marriage his wife had borne 3 children, all of whom were living with them. In 1910, he reported that Lucinda was his 2nd wife and that their only 3 children were still living. He stated that he had 1st married at the age of 23, thus in 1870. On 17 July 1922, Lucinda Bodine applied for a widow's pension. Lucinda (Wages) Bodine was the daughter of Littleton Phillip and Susannah (Biddison) Wages. Melissa (Widney) Bodine was the daughter of John Patterson and Jane (Linn) Widney.

D. C. BODINE DROPS DEAD.
David C. Bodine, a retired veterinary surgeon, aged 78 years old. a resident of Neodesha and Wilson county, and commander of Humphrey post, G. A. R., died suddenly at about 11:45 a.m., Friday, July 6, 1922, while seated on the steps in the rear of the Music Shop on Main street, where he roomed, attacked by heart trouble and passed away. The body was discovered by D. S. Conley, the tailor. David C. Bodine was born October 26, 1844, in Plymouth, Richland county, Ohio. He enlisted in Company A, 100th Regiment, Indiana Volunteers on August 6, 1862, and was a musician, corporal, and sergeant, and was discharged July 15th, 1865, by reason of the close of the Civil War. He saw service in the battles of Hollow Springs, Vicksburg, Mission Ridge, and was with Sherman on his march to the sea. He was in Grant's army on the campaign down the Mississippi valley and at the siege of Vicksburg. He also took part in the grand review at Washington following the close of the war. Soon after the war Mr. Bodine married Melissa Widney of Auburn, Ind., who died in Neodesha November 26, 1886. On the 7th day of September 1887, Mr. Bodine married Miss Lucinda Wages. His wife who was in Chicago at the time of his death, and three children, Mrs. Edith Danforth, of Tulsa, John P. Bodine of Neodesha, and Geo. P. Bodine of Chicago survive, also two children by a former wife, Mrs. Carrie Hull, of Colorado Springs, and Mrs. Grace Johnston of New York. All were present at the funeral except Mrs. Johnston. Mr. Bodine had lived here over fifty years, a man of a quiet nature, he had many friends. The funeral of D. C. Bodine, commander of the G. A. R. post here, was held Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock from Meineke's Chapel. The G. A. R. attended in a body. Rev. G. Alfred Brown delivered the funeral sermon. A male quartet, composed of Blaine White, Ivan Nefswander, Clifford Clark, and Franklin Pilpot, furnished music. Pallbearers were Paul Webb, Fred Stoops, Willis Robinson, and Lee Songer. Pallbearers, color guard and firing squad were also furnished by the American Legion. The color bearer and guard were Harry Moore, Luisha Cassel and H. C. Rice. The firing squad in charge of Corp. D. K. Stephens, was Wm. Black, Robt. Warner, R. Taylor, Arthur Zimmerman, and W. W. Martin.
