Notes for: Joseph Thompson

A lot of the information on this family came from messages posted to the Jessamine County Message Boards at www.Ancestry.com by a Robert W. Thompson. One message listed names and dates transcribed from info in a Bible that probably once belonged to this Joseph Thompson. The info was transcribed from a poor copy of the Bible pages. Several dates were not readable. Robert was not sure who owned this Bible now. I have pasted that message below.

Joseph Thompson Bible

Author: Robert W. Thompson
Date: 17 Sep 1998
Surnames: Thompson, Paul, Overstreet, Dennis, Ryley, Maupin, McKee
Classification: Bible

This is a transcription of a photo copy of a photo copy from a Thompson Bible. It is presumed to be the Bible of Joseph Thompson of Jessamine County. Unfortunately, I do not know who made the original copy or who has the Bible today. I think that the copy was made 30 or so years ago. A cousin of my cousin, who lives in Lexington, got a copy last summer following the death of an aunt of his. It is unfortunate that the copy is such that some of the dates are not readable. I have noted them as _ _ as needed.

The Thompson farm is still in the hands of his descendants. One of those is Robert Waller Thompson. Robert is the great-great-grandson of this Joseph and Sarah Thompson. Robert has the original deed for the farm. It dates from June 9, 1789 and was issued in Fayette County. (Jessamine was originally Fayette County.) The deed for the farm was for 220 acres. Almost 87 acres of that is still owned by the Thompson family. The farm was bought from a William and Elizabeth Thomas and a Lewis and Elizabeth Crage. I believe the original grant was to someone else. The Thompson farm was officially declared a Kentucky Bicentennial Farm back in 1990 or so. This means that after 200 years, it is still in the hands of the same family who owned it in 1789. It is one of the few Bicentennial farms left in Kentucky.
