Notes for: Maude Martha Bodine
Looking at the records, George and Mary Elizabeth Bodine had their first children while living in southern Minnesota and not near the South Dakota line. They then must have moved to Moody, Dakota Territory around 1880. Minnesota, as it is today, became a state in 1858. South Dakota became a state in 1889. Before that, it was the Dakota Territory. Unless there is good proof to show that Maude was born in Moody, then I would go with Minnesota (and probably Austin, Mower Co.).

Dave,
...The date of Maud's birth that I have is from her daughter and she says Maud was born in 1873, however on the computer it says 1874, in Moody, Dakota territory. She married John Edward Kelley about 1896. Maude died September 24, 1951. John Edward died August 5th, 1941 George and Mary Elizabeth had eleven children.
...
I also have the family members of James Bodine if you would like them. Would you like Maude's children?
I hope I haven't made this too complicated. This should give you a little history about Maude. She had quite the exciting life as John Edward was an elected official and they were invited to the white house and attended many balls and formal occasions.
...
Thanks again,
Deb Lepinski

Good Morning Dave!
We have always spelled Maude with an e. I looked her up on the Mn. Death Index and her name came up as Maude. But I have seen her name spelled without the e on various census etc. I'm not sure if that is just the preference of the person entering or what. I thought Maude was born in Mn. also but I have seen it often that she was born in Moody. I think the confusion comes because Dakota territory did include part of Mn. at one time. That's the only reason I can come up with for the confusion. I went back and checked on Louisa and you are right {I should never do this stuff at night} about her birthdate. Louisa was married twice. Her first husband was Harvey Adair and the second Charles Irish. I have her DOD as 7-27-1941. All those good Catholics with the first name of Mary and the Next group I'm going to give you is an example! I'm going to cut and paste this next group from the Mower County 1860 census. There are 2 Mary E.'s and a M. E. I can poke around a little more and see if I can find an explanation unless you already have one.
