Notes for: Frederick Augustus Bodine
I did have this Frederick Bodine, husband of Eliza Jane Roberts, as a separate person from Frederick Bodine, son of Isaac Bodine and Catherine Casper. However, they seem to be the same person. I did not have any children or wives listed for Frederick, son of Isaac. I will assume that they are the same person, but it needs more proof. One bit of evidence is that this Frederick and Ellis M. Bodine are both listed in the same 1850 Census of Wellsborough Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania.
Frederick and Ellis are also listed next to each other in the 1840 Census of Wellsboro Township. From that, it looks like Frederick had several children born before 1840 - maybe a couple of boys.
Frederick's wife is not listed in the 1850 Census. She must have died by that time. Elizabeth Jane is the last child listed on the 1850 Census. She was three years old. No new children were listed on the 1860 Census. However, I did have info (no source) that Frederick had three other children: George (b. abt. 1851), Anna (b. abt. 1855) and another male Bodine (b. abt. 1857). My guess is that that must be incorrect. I have deleted those children now. (He might have had older children, though, who had moved off by the time of the 1850 Census).
There is a marriage record from the Wellsboro, Tioga Co., PA newspaper called the "Wellsboro Advertiser" which gives the following: "m in Chemung NY on the 5th inst, by Rev. Mr. McKinney, Mr. Frederick Bodine, of Wellsborough Pa, and Mrs. Mary B., widow of Rev. Elijah Kress, of Chemung, NY." This would have been October 5, 1852 to Mary B. Kress. There is a Mary Bodine listed as Frederick's wife on the 1860 Census of Wellsboro.
There is a Frederick Bodine and his wife, Mary B. Bodine buried in Prospect Cemetery in Tioga Co., PA. He died in 1873 at the age of 78 and she died in 1885 at the age of 82. A son Charles is also buried there. He died in 1866 at the age of 26.
There is a Martha Gee (age 36, NY) listed with them in the 1850 Census of Tioga Co., PA. Her son is also listed (Theodore N.C. Gee, age 5, PA).
The following comes from some Tioga County, PA newspaper records at the Tioga GenWeb site:
