Obituary
Lena "Ellen" Ruck: 87 years old of Antioch, IL passed away peacefully Sunday November 9, 2025, at Advent Health Hospital, Ocala, FL. She was born September 9, 1938, in Central City, KY, the daughter of the late Charles and Mary Jane (nee Goodman) Bodine, settling in Antioch, IL in 1964. Ellen received her master’s degree in Christian Education from Scarritt College in Nashville, TN. Throughout her life, Ellen worked as a church secretary in Central City KY, a grade school teacher in Barrington, Round Lake, and Antioch, a Director of Christian Education, a real estate agent in Antioch, and an executive assistant in Wauconda. Ellen was a long-standing member of the Antioch United Methodist Church and enjoyed: reading, playing bridge, teaching church school, gardening, traveling, and spending time with her family and friends. On August 1, 1964, Ellen married Richard C. Ruck, Jr at the United Methodist Church, Barrington, IL and he preceded her in death on October 7, 2004.
Survivors include: two sons Dr. Richard (Marisol) Ruck of Ocala, FL and Edward (Valerie) Ruck of Middletown, DE; two grandchildren: Alejandro and Katelyn; siblings: Carol Walker, Sally Snyder, and Peggy Cox; and many other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents and husband Richard, Ellen was preceded in death by her brother Robert Bodine, and her sisters Emily Stewart, Susie Shaver, and Nancy Grise.
Funeral Services will be held 12 noon, Saturday November 22, 2025, at the United Methodist Church 848 Main St. (Rte. 83) Antioch, IL 60002. Interment will follow in Millburn Cemetery, Old Mill Creek, IL. Visitation will be held from 4pm until 8pm Friday at the Strang Funeral Home of Antioch, 1055 Main St. (Rte. 83) Antioch, IL 60002, and from 11am until time of services Saturday at the church. Funeral services for Richard C. Ruck Jr., 68, of Antioch, will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, at United Methodist Church of Antioch, 848 Main St., Antioch, with Pastor Gary L. Curl officiating. Interment will be in Millburn Cemetery, Old Mill Creek, Ill. Visitation will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, at Strang Funeral Home of Antioch, 1055 Main St. (Route 83), Antioch, and from 9 a.m. until the time of services Monday, at the church. Born March 8, 1936, in Richmond Hills, N.Y., the son of Richard and Edna (nee Eberhardt) Ruck, he passed away Thursday, Oct. 7, 2004, at Good Shepherd Hospital, Barrington. Richard graduated from Brooklyn Poly Technical College with an electrical engineering degree, and had worked for Recon Optical in Barrington for over 40 years. During his career some of his accomplishments included being a camera mock-up man for the movie "Thirteen Days," was one of the people who received the patent for the long-life focal plane shutter for reconnaissance cameras, and was very knowledgeable on film-based reconnaissance equipment. Richard also served with the Army Reserves and enjoyed woodworking. On Aug. 1, 1964, he married Ellen Bodine in Barrington. Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Ellen; sons, Richard C. II M.D. (Marisol) of Fort Benning, Ga. and Edward H. (Valerie) of Lake Villa; and grandchildren, Alejandro and Katelyn. Richard was preceded in death by his parents; and by his sister, June.
