Notes for: William Horace Bodine, Jr.
He was William Horace Bodine, Jr. However, his son was also a Jr.
His headstone at Sandy Ridge Cemetery also lists Jennie A. (b. 8-21-1870, d. 2-6-1970 - This date needs checking.); Beulah P. (b. 9-20-1892, d. 2-17-1894); and Wilde E. (b. 7-15-1895, d. 11-29-1895).
Below is a recipe that came from a book done by the Ladies Aid Society of the Methodist Episcopal Church of Kingwood in Hunterdon County, New Jersey in 1920. I believe this recipe is from Jennie Horner, the wife of this William Bodine.
Recipe from Mrs. Jennie Bodine:
Tomato Soup
8 qts. ripe tomatoes, 1 stool [not a typo on my part, this is the way it is written in book, Kay ] celery, 3 small onions, 2 sweet peppers, 1/2 cup salt, black pepper to taste. Boil 40 minutes and strain through colander or fruit press to take out seeds. Return to stove, let come to a boil, thicken with 5 or 6 tablespoons of cornstarch that has been dissolved in cold water. After it has boiled through good, seal in air tight jars.
From Ronny Bodine:
William Bodine lived 1900 in Union Township, Union County with his wife Jennie and 3 children and was employed as a locomotive fireman. He reported that in 10 years of marriage his wife had borne 5 children, but only 3 had survived.
