Notes for: Albert Z. Bodine
In 1850 in Michigan, Genesee Co., Flint Twp:
Albert Bodine, 19, farmer, prob. hired hand 1 of 3 farmers in household of Thomas B. Bigole
I have no idea if this applies to this Albert, but I put it here just in case.
I also found a widow, Mary Bodine, in the 1880 Census of Port Richmond, Staten Island, NY. Mary is 71 and born in NY. Both her parents were also born in NY. In her household were Albert Bodine (age 50, son, single, NY, NY, NY, captain of a schooner) and Ann E. Bodine (age 48, daughter, single, NY, NY, NY, at home). I would say this may apply to this family, but Mary would not have been the mother of the oldest children.

Albert was named as a surviving heir of his brother James Bodine in the latter's estate proceedings of 22 May 1848.
In 1850, he was living in North Field, Cook County, Illinois in the home of Stephen Wood, whose first wife had been Mary Ann Bodine, daughter of James Bodine (1758-1838) and a first cousin of Albert's father. In 1851, he returned to Lee Center and from 1862 on has been engaged in wagon making. From 1857 to 1897 he had held the office of Justice of the Peace.

Matilda Bixby, was the daughter of Samuel and Lucretia Bixby.

Katherine was the daughter of Frank and Agnes (Burns) Colvin.

1910 Lee Center, Lee Co., IL: Albert Z. BODINE 80 NY notary public 7 pension agent, Katherine 58 IL wife. Married 36 years, 3 children born/3 living. His 2nd marriage.

Albert Z. Bodine, who died at his home in Lee Center, August 10, was born on Staten Island, N.Y. Feb. 8, 1830, and was the son of Nathaniel and Maria (Garretson) Bodine, both natives of Staten Island. John Bodine, paternal grandfather, and John Garretson, maternal grandfather of Mr. Bodine, were both colonels in the war of 1812. Nathaniel Bodine, his father, died young, leaving a widow and four children who came west in 1841 and settled 18 miles north of Chicago.
In 1847 A. Z. Bodine came to Lee Center and lived there until his death, with the exception of two years spent in Chicago, where he learned the carpenter's trade. Several old houses in town were erected with his assistance. His especial trade, however, was making carriages, buggies and wagons, which were noted for their strength and durability, outlasting by nearly a generation the factory made product of today.
In 1856 he married Matilda Bixby, by whom he had two children, Rosalie (deceased) who was the wife of James Mcgee of Cherokee, Ia., and Anna Estella, wife of David May of Dayton, Ore. Mrs. Bodine died in 1862 and he subsequently married Katherine A. Calvin of Sublette and three children were born to them: Mary A., wife of Fred R. Starks of Los Angeles, Cal.; Leslie A. of Huttig, Ark., and Genevieve B., wife of W. S. Frost Jr. of Bradford township. He leaves thirteen grandchildren, six in Iowa, four in Oregon and three here, the children of Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Frost, Jr.
Mr. Bodine had studied for the law at one time, was always a student of the best literature and greatly interested in all affairs of national and public interest as well as those affecting education in all its branches. He was justice in Lee Center for many years, also notary public and his advice on legal matters was eagerly sought by many. We must not omit to mention his unfailing courtesy alike to friend and stranger and he was rightly termed "a gentleman of the old school." Another one is gone out of the rapidly thinning ranks of the pioneers of Lee county. Funeral services were conducted at the residence Wednesday afternoon by Rev. H. E. Heyse of Lee Center and interment was in Woodside cemetery.
In 1920, Katherine Bodine,68, was now widowed and living in the home of her daughter Genevieve Frost and her family in Lee Center.

Katherine Agnes Bodine, widow of A. Z. Bodine, born 31 Aug 1850 in Sublette, IL, dau. of Frank & Agnes (Burns) Colvin, died 12 Nov 1928 in Lee Center1, buried in Lee Center. Resided 64 years in the city where death occurred.
