Walter Joshua Bodine registered for the World War I draft on 5 June 1917 in San Saba County. He gave his date of birth as 8 Aug 1893, very different from Nov 1891 in the 1900 census and 8 Aug 1891 engraved on his grave marker. He served in France for 2 years during World War I. The Walter Bodine family was living 1930 in San Saba County where Walter engaged in farming. The family moved to Bangs, Brown County, Texas in 1936. Joshua and Myrtle Bodine were buried in Richland Springs Cemetery, San Saba County.

BANGS, Texas, Sept. 7.---Rites for Walter J. Bodine, 58, Bangs farmer and World War I overseas veteran were held here Thursday at the First Baptist Church. He died Tuesday night in McCloskey Hospital at Temple.
Bodine had lived in Bangs fourteen years. He served in France for two years during World War I.
Survivors are his wife, three sons, Adrian Bodine of Beeville, Ray Bodine of LaMarque and Gayle Bodine of Bangs; three daughters, Mrs. L. L. Moore of Fort Worth, Misses Betty Bodine and Nelda Bodine, both of Bangs; his father, W. A. Bodine, Bangs; four brothers, Guy Bodine and Bon Bodine, both of San Antonio; Frank Bodine of Arizona and Plummer Bodine of Silver City, N.M.; two sisters, Mrs. Frank Brazelton of San Angelo and Mrs. Mamie McCarty of Sudan, and three grandchildren.
