Jessie James Bodine registered for the World War I draft 5 June 1917 in San Saba County. The Jessie Bodine family was living 1910-1930 in San Saba County where Jessie was engaged in farming. In 1930, Mrs. Katy E. Bodine, widow, headed her family. Jess and Kate Bodine were buried in Richland Springs Cemetery, San Saba County. Jessie Bodine's Texas death certificate reports his birth as 28 Aug 1889 whereas the newspaper obituary gives the date as 25 Aug 1889.

Richland Springs and community were shrouded in a pall of sorrow Saturday afternoon at 2:30 when J. J. Bodine passed on to his blessed reward. Jess was born August 25, 1889; died at the family home; Oct. 19, 1929. He professed a hope in Christ and united with the Baptist church in 1916, and lived a true christian life. He was one of God's real noble men. He was true to his family, his friends and his God. He was loved and respected as few men are. His was a clean noble life of unselfishness. The funeral services were conducted in the Baptist church Sunday afternoon at 3 p. m. by Rev's Anderson and Ramsour of Brownwood, his pastor and former pastor, in the presence of a large circle of mourning friends. He was married to Miss Katie Berry October 11, 1911, and to this union five children were born, one boy and four girls, all living. He also leaves an aged father, W. A. Bodine, and five brothers and two sisters. These are Walter Bodine of Richland Springs, Guy and Bonnie Bodine of Eldorado, Plummer Bodine of Lake Arthur, New Mexico, Mrs. B. H. McCarty of Abilene, Mrs. Bessie Brazelton of San Angelo. One brother Frank was unable to be here on account of sickness. Following the religious services the body was taken in charge by the Masonic lodge and tenderly laid away with all the solemnity of this ancient order, in the Richland Springs cemetery. The pall bearers were Byrd Williams, Hiram Davenport, Marion Burleson, J. A. Mays R. P. Terry, and J. A. Carter.
