MINERAL - Lester Day Bodine, 90, of Mineral died Tuesday, July 22, 1997, at Creekside Estates care center in Red Bluff. Services will be conducted at a later date. He was born July 4, 1907, in Petaluma, and later moved to Mineral. He worked for A.A. Hauseman Gwathmy and Co. brokerage firm until 1933, was a dispatcher for Lassen Volcanic National Park, worked for R.W. Hanna Vina Ranch, managed the Lassen Park ski area for the Lassen National Park Co., was a World War II veteran in the U.S. Army Air Corps, a park ranger for Lassen Volcanic National Park where he became the South District ranger in 1950, North District ranger in 1958, and finally chief park ranger in 1967 before retiring in 1969. He was founder of the Lassen Ski Patrol where he served as both first aid and avalanche instructor, he served on the Olympic Ski Patrol during the 1960 Winter Olympics at Squaw Valley. He was also a member of the Congregational Church of Sierra Madre, the Lassen Forest Forum, the Tehama Chapter of the American Red Cross, the Friends of the Library, the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, was secretary of the Loomis Museum Association, was chief financial officer and a charter director of the Lassen Park Foundation, was a board member of the Tehama County Historical and Genealogical Society, a benefactor of Mineral School, president of the Mineral Home Owners Association for 22 years, founding member of Mineral Hose Company 1, a volunteer fire company, was a life member of the Sierra Club and the Western Snow Conference. Survivors include wife Muriel and brother Bernhard of San Pedro. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lassen Park Foundation, 910 Orange St., Red Bluff CA 96080. Arrangements are being handled by Hoyt-Cole Chapel of the Flowers in Red Bluff.

MINERAL- No services will be held for Muriel T. Bodine, 95, of Mineral. She died Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2000. She was born Dec. 21, 1904, in Los Angeles to Nathan W. and Helen Tolman Tarr. Mrs. Bodine was raised in Sierra Madre and graduated from Pasadena High School. She attended Parsons School of Design in Pasadena and Chico State University, where she became a member of Alpha Gamma Delta. She was a long-time member of the Order of Eastern Star, Kelly-Griggs Museum Association in Red Bluff, Friends of the Library, Tehama County Genealogical and Historical Society, Sierra Madre Congregational Church and various other local and civic organizations. During World War II she worked at Lockheed Aircraft as an electrical precision assembler. She was married to Lester Bodine, former chief ranger for Lassen Volcanic National Park. Survivors include two brothers, Dr. Danson Tarr and Raymond Tarr. Contributions in her memory may be made to the Sierra Madre Congregational Church, 170 W. Sierra Madre Blvd., Sierra Madre, CA, 91024. Douglass and Zook Mortuary in Monrovia is handling the arrangements.
