On 5 June 1917, Clarence Russell Eager registered for the World War I draft in Montgomery, New York. He stated he was born in Montgomery on 17 Aug 1886, was married and had four children.
Obituary, The Times Herald (Middletown, N.Y.) of 23 Aug 1972.
Mrs. Sally Bodine Eager, 81, a native of Montgomery who had lived in the area most of her life, died Monday at Horton Memorial Hospital, Middletown, after a short illness. She lived at 148 Clinton St. Born Dec. 30, 1890, in Montgomery, she was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John L. D. Bodine and married Clarence R. Eager. Survivors include her husband; three step daughters, Mrs. Robert O'Banks, Mrs. Ottie Wilkens, both of Montgomery, and Mrs. Howard Knapp of Phoenix, Ariz.; and three stepsons, Clarence E. Eager of Montgomery, William Nelson Eager of Wilton, Conn, and Philip Eager of Middletown. Services will be at 2 Thursday in the Overhiser Funeral Home, Montgomery. Burial will be in Montgomery's Riverside Cemetery. Friends may call this afternoon and evening in the funeral home.
[Note: Clarence R. Eager was the son of John L. D. and Emma Eager. About 1906 he married Bertha, with whom he was living in 1910 and 1920, but was widowed by 1930 and still a widower in 1940. Clearly the obituary was in error as to Sally's parents unless she went to live with the Eagers and later married their son Clarence. The named stepchildren all appear with their father in the censuses from 1910 to 1930.]
