Hello Dave,

Ed and I made a trip up to Fountain County, Indiana yesterday, and we visited the rurral grave sites of two interesting Bodines...

The other stone was not quite as easy an identification as I had hoped. This stone is marked:
"Son of W & M BODINE"
"Sweet Nedie unto earth
A little while was given"

There is a flat stone across the top, but this is obviously just there to cover two round holes which had once anchored a small post or perhaps a statue. This cemetery (they could not tell me the name of this cemetery - I will try to get that information from the Historical Society) is within about one mile of the farm of William Seymour "Jesse" Bodine and Minta Belle Dice, and Marvin seemed to think they were the most likely parents. They did have a son by the name of Ned Dice Bodine who was born in July of 1899, but he survived to adulthood and is buried in the Mt Hope Cemetery in Covington beside his wife. William Seymour "Jess" and Minta Belle Dice-Bodine were married in October of 1881, but did not have a "known" child until June 1893. However, Census records indicate that this couple had 4 children and all 4 were living and accounted for later in life. So - my next choice for parents of this individual were Watson Ward Bodine and Margaret "Maggie" Morrison. They did have a child by the name of Ned L. Bodine who was born about February 1898 - he is listed in their household in the 1900 Census at age 2, but no other indication of him has ever been found after this date. I feel very confident that the tombstone for "Nedie" is indeed that of the Ned L. Bodine, the son of Watson Ward and Margaret "Maggie" Morrison Bodine.

Best Wishes,
Jan Bodine

From Ronny Bodine:

Ned Bodine was living in June 1900, but was deceased by April 1910 when his parents reported 4 of their 5 children were then living.
