Notes for: George Washington Bodine

See the Archives page for a Bible records on this family.

Here are some pictures sent to me by Lois (Bodine) Van Etten and Laura Van Etten-Collins of Clarissa (Williams) Bodine:

Top Row (L to R): Lillian Youngs and her mother Mary Matlock (daughter of George W. Bodine).

Seated (L to R): George W. Bodine and his great-grandson Jimmie Youngs.

George W. Bodine and Family

And here is one of someone related to Clarissa (Williams) Bodine, but we're not sure who she is. The picture probably says it is Clarissa's mother, but this type of photograph does not match the time period when this would have been taken of her mother.

Clarissa (Williams) Bodine

And here is another one. It was taken on George and Clarissa's 50th wedding anniversary.

Back Row; James Beverly Matlock and his wife Mary Viola (Bodine) Matlock, Homer Matlock (James's brother)

Front Row; George Washington Bodine, Clarissa Williams

George Washington Bodine Family Picture

Here is one of the Williams family. Clarissa (Williams) Bodine is in the middle of the back row with her father in front of her. I guess the rest are Clarissa's siblings. From L-R on he back row: Almeda Williams (sister?), Clarissa Williams, Adeline Williams (sister and wife of Ambrose Bodine). In the front row L-R, Charles Williams (brother), Marvin Williams (father), and Sarah Williams (sister). This picture was taken April 20, 1889 when Marvin was 80 years old. Maybe it is his birthday party. And it was taken in the home of Clarissa Bodine. I guess this comes from v. 14, p. 95 of Michigan Pioneer Collections (or that is just information about Marvin Williams).

And here is in the info on the back of this picture:

Subject: Re: revisions to William Ira Bodine

Hi Dave, I really don't have much - my uncle John L. Bodine wrote down a few things for me a long time ago. He listed his father William Ira, as having 2 siblings, Mary (married James Matlock brother of William Ira's wife- Mary Maybell Matlock), and Charles (he died in Springfield, MO sometime before 1950 I think. I'll ask my sister and cousin). I have never heard of Frederick and Uncle John didn't mention him. Maybe he died young ? John said that Clarissa (aka Sarah) Williams was French Canadian. He said George's brothers were Henry, Ambrose, and William. Thier father was Abram and an "English girl", Trumbull. John said that George W. and his brothers each homesteaded 600 acres in Mich. George subsequently sold his land to his brothers to become a captain on the lake ships. John said Abram's people came from Holland to Wm. Penn's colony about 1710. That's all I have earlier than great grandfather George.

Regards,
Lois

From Ronny Bodine:

In 1880, George and Clarissa Bodine lived in Maple Grove, Saginaw County, Michigan engaged in farming. Their family included Fred, 15; Charles, 13; William, 10 and Mary, 5. In June 1900, Clarissa Bodine lived in the home of her brother-in-law, Ambrose Bodine. She reported she had been married 40 years and bore 5 children, 4 of whom were then living. George Bodine lived with Charles and Ida Trumbull in Genesee, Genesee County where he reported his birth as July 1838 and that he had been married 40 years. In Jan 1920, George Bodine, age 87 and widowed, lived with his son Fred in Genesee. The Michigan death certificate of George W. Bodine, with information provided by his son Fred A. Bodine, states George was born in Auburn, New York.
