Notes for: Louisa Jane Bodine
I found her listed as Louisa Jane Bodine, daughter of Abraham and Mrs. Abraham Bodine [that would be Nelly Vantine]. She was born in 1831 (LDS site). If this birth date is correct, she is probably not Abraham and Nelly's daughter. It looks like she is their granddaughter.
She is listed with Abraham [husband of Nelly Vantine] in the 1850 Census of Niles, Cayuga Co., NY. She was 19 and born in NY. He was 82 and born in PA. I don't know if she is listed as a daughter or not, but I doubt she is. She must be a granddaughter or a niece. Her mother would have been 63 when she was born - highly unlikely!
She was living in Auburn, Cayuga Co., NY in 1907.
From Ronny Bodine:
In June 1900, Louisa J. Kirkpatrick, age 69 and widowed, lived with her daughter and son-in-law, Nellie and Frank Barney, in Auburn, Cayuga County. She reported that of her 4 children, 3 were still living. James and Louisa Kirkpatrick were buried in Fort Hill Cemetery, Auburn, Cayuga County.
Obituary, Auburn News and Bulletin (Auburn, N.Y.) of 5 Dec 1882.
James Kirkpatrick, a carpenter and builder whose home was on Howard street died suddenly last night at about half past 11 o'clock of paralysis. He was seized while at work on the house of Joseph Meilor, on Jefferson street, and was entirely helpless. He was taken home and medical aid called at once, but there was no help for him. Mr. Kirkpatrick was a respected resident of Auburn and one of the original trustees of Calvary church. He was the father of Mrs. Benjamin M. Wilcox and brother of George W. Kirkpatrick. The afflicted family have the sympathy of many friends in this bereavement.
Obituary, The Auburn Citizen (Auburn, N.Y.) of 28 Jan 1915.
Mrs. Louisa J. Bodine Kirkpatrick, 84, widow of James Kirkpatrick, died early this morning at the City Hospital, following a short illness. Mrs. Kirkpatrick had been ill for only a week, and up to the time she was taken sick had been enjoying extremely good health for a person of her years. She was born in Niles and moved to this city 60 years ago. Her husband died 25 years later. During the years of her residence in this city Mrs. Kirkpatrick has been an active member of Calvary Presbyterian Church. The death of Mrs. Kirkpatrick makes the second to occur in that family in the past year, her daughter, Mrs. Nellie Barney, having died last Spring. Surviving Mrs. Kirkpatrick are one son, Dr. R. A. Kirkpatrick ot Troy, one sister, Mrs. Mary Ann Stearns of Darien, Wis., and two brothers, Frank Bodine of Toledo, O., and William Bodine of Owasco. The body will be removed to the home of Mrs. W. H. Ward, No. 14 Lawton Avenue, where it will remain until Saturday afternoon when it will be taken to Calvary Church. Services will be held in the church at 2, o'clock on Saturday afternoon. Rev. V. N. Yergin, pastor of the church, will be in charge. Burial will be made in Fort Hill.
