LDS also had a John Bodine, born in 1850, to a Charles Bodine and Susan C. Philhouse. He was supposedly born in Union, Hunterdon, NJ. Another record said his mother was Susan Philbower and that he was probably born in Chesterfield, Hunterdon, NJ.

In 1900, John Bodine lived in Bedminster Township, Somerset County where he worked as a carpenter. He reported that in 17 years of marriage his wife had borne 3 children, all then living with them.

Funeral services for former Mayor John Bodine of Peapack-Gladstone were held Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. at the Gladstone Methodist United Church and burial was in the cemetery there. Mr. Bodine died at his home in the night from Friday through Saturday after an illness of three weeks. Until January when he resigned, he had served as mayor continuously for eighteen years. Previous to that he served for __ years as assessor of Bedminster Township. In 1912, he was elected Mayor of Peapack-Gladstone on the Republican ticket and continued in this office until he resigned last ____ with the announcement that he had served in public office long enough. Mr. Bodine was born in Chester Township. He attended school in Morris Town and learned the carpenter trade. Later he went in business for himself and supervised carpentry work in many large residences in Somerset County and among work he did in Bernardsville was the renovation of the Church of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, the contract for which was awarded to him by Mrs. ____Cox Brady of Gladstone, donor of the improvements to the edifice. Mr. Bodine was a member of Chester Lodge of Masons, North Star Lodge, Jr. O. U. A. M. of Peapack of the Improved Order of Hepta___ of East Orange. Forty-seven years ago he married Miss Carrie Angleman of Chester, who survives and with two daughters, Mrs. Leona M. Trimble of Rochester, N.Y., and Mrs. Anna M. benjamin of Peapack-Gladstone, and a son, J. Leslie Bodine of Gladstone.

Mrs. Carrie Bodine of Prospect place, Peapack-Gladstone, died last Friday morning, March 30, 1951, in Somerset Hospital, Somerville, after a short illness. She was 88 years of age. A native of Mt. Rose, Mrs. Bodine was the daughter of the late Elias and Mary Backer Angleman. She lived in the Somerset Hills all her life and was a member of the Gladstone Methodist Church, of the Women's Society of Christian Service of the church, and of the Ladies' Auxiliary of the Peapack-Gladstone Fire Company. Her husband, the late John Bodine, first mayor of Peapack-Gladstone (from 1912 to 1929), predeceased her. She leaves two daughters, Mrs. Leona M. Trimble of Jackson avenue and Mrs. Anna M. Benjamin of Prospect place; one son, J. Leslie Bodine of Dewey avenue, all Peakpack-Gladstone; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. The Rev. Edward S. McLaughlin, pastor of the Gladstone Methodist Church, officiated last Sunday at funeral services in the Bailey Funeral Home. He was assisted by the Rev. Julius Prochnau, pastor of the Peapack Reformed Church. Burial followed in the Union Cemetery, Peapack-Gladstone.
