Notes for: Abraham (Abram) M. Bodine
There is an Abram M. Bodine buried in the Owasco Rural Cemetery (#155). It is probably this Abram. He was buried on February 17, 1907 at age 66. That would make his birthday about 1841, the same as this Abram. I believe the stone may say he was born in 1840. His wife, Maria, is buried near him (1844-1916).
There is also a Margaret A. in the records near his. She died June 17, 1914 at age 73. This must be Margaret A. Bodine, the wife of John Martin Bodine. I do not yet have a father for that John Bodine, but it doesn't look like it is this Abraham. Records further below seem to show that Abraham and Affy did not have any children.
There is an Abram Bodine in the 1880 Census of Niles, Cayuga Co., NY. He is a farmer, age 39, born in NY. Both his parents were also born in NY. His wife is Maria Bodine, age 34, born in NY. Both her parents were also born in NY. They were living near some Conklins.
The following, from Jessica Anderson, shows that this Abram is the one buried in Owasco Rural Cemetery. It also seems to show that this couple had no children since none are named in the records below:
Abram M d Feb 14, 1907
widow: Affy Maria of Owasco
sisters: Louisa J Kirkpatrick of Auburn, Mary A Starin of Darien Wisconsin, Sarah Raymond of Paw Paw Michigan
brothers: Frank of Toledo Ohio, William D of Skaneateles "whose Post Office is Owasco"
The will took years to clear, and the following were added:
Mary Keefer of St Louis Michigan and Mirty Jacobs of Paw Paw--children of deceased daughter Sarah, wife
of James Raymond; Samie Angus of Gaylord Michigan, Frank Cole of Salida Colorado, Carl Cole of Paw Paw and
Carrie Stanley--children of Nellie Cole, deceased daughter of Sarah Raymond
The record above is from Cayuga County, New York surrogate records.
From Ronny Bodine:
Census records of 1870, 1880 and 1900 all record his name as Abram Bodine. Those of 1850 and 1860 and the New York State Census of 1905 give his full name of Abraham Bodine.
Abram and Maria Bodine likely married in Cayuga County, New York in 1869 and were living there in Niles from 1870 on. In June 1900, Abram and Maria Bodine lived in Niles, Cayuga County, New York. Their births were recorded as Sept 1840 and Oct 1844, that they had been married 31 years and that Maria had borne no children. Affy (Ammerman) Bodine was the daughter of Isaac P. and Julia A. Ammerman with whom she was living 1850 in Moravia, Cayuga County.
Obituary, Genoa Tribune (Genoa, N.Y.) of 22 Feb 1907.
Abram M. Bodine, an uncle of Senator B. M. Wilcox of this city, died Thursday evening at his home in Owasco, aged 67. Mr. Bodine had lived all his life in this vicinity and for many years conducted a successful farm in the town of Niles. A few years ago he retired from farming and moved to the village of Owasco. He is survived only by his widow. Although he had always been active in public matters, he had never held public office. The funeral was held at 2 o'clock Monday at the Reformed church at Owasco with burial at the Owasco Rural cemetery.
From the Auburn Weekly Bulletin (Auburn, N.Y.) of April 1907.
The will of the late Abram M. Bodine of Owasco was admitted to probate and letters testamentary were issued to Affy E. Bodine, the widow, and Morris E. Spafford. The estate consists of $7,000 personal and $6,000 real property. The will was made April 13, 1881, and provides for the widow having a life use of the entire estate and at her death is to go to missions of the Reformed Church of America. The sum of $1,000 goes to the Board of Foreign Missions of the Reformed Church of America and the balance to the Board of Domestic Missions of the same church. A sister, Mary A.
