This Abraham would appear to be the Abraham discussed in the messages below:
Sue,
I only see one Abraham Bodine in my data who might match the info that Doris forwarded to me. I am only guessing, but it would appear that your Abraham is Abraham Brown Bodine, the son of Abraham Bodine and Abby Ann Kinsey. I have that Abraham was born on Feb. 29, 1839 at Staten Island and was baptized there on November 10, 1839. This is recorded in "Staten Island Church Records," by Tobias Wright. NYGBS, 1909. I'm not sure which church he was baptized at, but the church where his father was baptized was a United Brethren Congregation. It was commonly called the New Dorp Moravian (or Morabian) Church.
I have his grandfather listed as a James Burdine/Bodine. So it appears that the family did go by both Berdine and Bodine. I don't have a Charles listed as Abraham's brother and I don't have anything on his children. My guess would be that Charles was his son instead of his brother.
I would love to get anything you learn about this family. I could then post it later at my Bodine site.
Hope this helps. Keep up the good work.
Best regards,
Dave Bodine

Hi, Sue, it was interesting to hear about these two Berdine/Bodines in California, born at Staten Island, NY. I commend you for researching those buried in your old cemetery.
Neither Abraham Bodine in my genealogical data is the right period to be the one you mention, nor do I have a Charles Bodine in my data. The most knowledgeable person I know on this family is Dave Bodine, whose email address is Dave@mediterraneanaccents.com and his excellent website is:
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~bodine/. I suggest you look at it, and write to him. By clicking a Surnames link on his home page, you'll get a list which includes many Abrahams and Charleses, one of whom died 1897 but apparently in Salt Lake City, UT.
Dave, I enjoyed your new pictures from France. Your site gets better & better!
Good luck to you,
Doris Ross Johnston

Hi Doris,
This is coming at you from really "out there"...but
We had two men living at Salmon Falls, El Dorado County, California in the 1800s. One was known as Abe Bodine or Berdine or A.B. Bodine. He was a native of Staten Island, New York. He died at age 25 in March of 1865. He was buried in the Salmon Falls Cemetery, though his grave was never marked.
The other was Charles Berdine/Bodine, also living at Salmon Falls. Charles drowned in June of 1897. No age was given, though he was identified in the 1960s by a native of Salmon Falls as having been either the brother or son of Abe.
I saw your posting on Rootsweb and thought since your Abraham "Bodine" was from Staten Island, what you thought the chances are that these two may have been related to him?
Like I said, this is from way out there. We would like to find out as much as we can on those buried in our historic cemeteries.
Thanks for any insight you might have.
Sincerely,
Sue Silver, President

Hi Dave,
Thanks for the check up. What do you know about Abby Ann Kinsey? We also had a guy here known as A.G. Kinsey. He built and operated bridges in Folsom, was associated in some way with Augustus T. Arrowsmith (a surveyor and civil engineer from New York). Later the Sacramento county history tells us Kinsey was a stock broker in San Francisco. I haven't been able to find him anywhere. Just thought maybe there might be a chance for a connection there also.
I appreciate your information. I know there are people who died out here from 1849 on that we will never learn any more about them than what is in their death notices. It's so frustrating and I often refer to them as our "Forgotten Sons and Daughters" - because they had to have come from parents and families somewhere. In so many cases, there's no one out there who has listed them as being ggg-granddad's brother or anything. It's as if they just simply didn't exist. But we know they did.
Thanks again. If you should find a connectio between Abby Kinsey and my A.G. Kinsey, give me a holler!
Sue Silver
From Ronny Bodine:
Abraham Bodine was bapt. 10 Nov 1839 at the parsonage of the Moravian Church, Richmond County. In 1860, A. B. Bodine, age 21, was a miner in Salmon Falls Township, El Dorado County. He was buried in an unmarked grave in Salmon Falls Cemetery.
