Notes for: Edward Payson Bodine

He wrote a very well-known article entitled "History of the Branch of the Bodine Family," published in Lodi, New York in 1897.

Edward P. Bodine is in the 1880 Census of Lodi, Seneca Co., NY. He is in the household of his sister, Phebe Lott, wife of Peter Lott.

His obituary is in the Waterloo Observer of January 14, 1921:
Edward Payson Bodine, of Lodi, died on Tuesday at the Waterlook Hospital. He was born at Ovid on November 19th, 1847, and was the last survivor of the family of George and Ann VanNest Bodine. He was never married and is survived only by nephews and nieces. In his early life he resided in this village and was for a time a storekeeper at the Distillery, and for a number of years traveled as a salesman in the west. For the past forty years he has resided at Lodi and for 25 years has been Town Clerk. He made his home with the Lott sisters, his nieces. He was an uncle of Judge George F. Bodine, of this village. He was greatly interested in historical research work and compiled a history of the Bodine family. His grandfather, Cornelius Bodine, was a soldier of the Revolution and was stationed in the old fort on lot 29 in Ovid Township, building a home in Ovid in 1779 and bringing his family of eight sons from Pennsylvania. His funeral was held at Lodi this afternoon.

In June 1870, brothers Thaddeus, 40, and Edward P. Bodine, 22, lived in Franklin House, a hotel in Ovid, Seneca County. Thaddeus was noted as a lawyer and justice of the peace and Edward sold musical instruments. In June 1880, Edward P. Bodine, age 32 and single, lived with his sister and brother-in-law, Phebe and Peter Lott in Lodi, Seneca County. In June 1900, Edward P. Bodine, aged 52 (born Nov 1847), a real estate agent, lived with his brother Peter in Lodi. In April 1910, aged 62 and in Jan 1920, aged 72 and single, he lived and worked in Lodi as a lawyer in a private office.

Edward P. Bodine, town clerk of Lodi for more than 25 years, and who has been in poor health for several months past, was taken to the Soldiers and Sailors' memorial hospital at Waterloo last Saturday and died there Tuesday night. Funeral will be held this Friday afternoon at the home of the Misses Lott. Mr. Bodine was born in the town of Lodi and nearly all of his life was spent here where he was known and respected by everybody. He was one of the best posted town clerks in the State, so acknowledged by Albany authorities.
