Notes for: Martha Holman Bodine
From Ronny Bodine:
Stephen Hull enlisted in Company H, 6th Regiment New Jersey Infantry on 26 Aug 1861 as a Private, was promoted to Full Corporal on 1 Sept 1862 and was mustered out on 18 Sept 1864. The marriage of Stephen Hull of Lambertville to Miss Martha H. Bodine was reported in the "New Jersey Mirror" of 5 June 1867. The Hull family was living 1880-1900 in West Amwell Township, Hunterdon County where Stephen worked as a painter. In 1900, Martha reported she had borne 3 children, all then living.
Obituary, Trenton Evening Times (Trenton, N.J.) of 21 Dec 1903.
Lambertville, Dec. 21.--Stephen Hull, aged about 60 years, a veteran of the Civil war, was found dead at an early hour yesterday in a ditch at the head of North Union street, by A. L. Lambert, a milkman. His neck was broken, and his face was cut and bruised. He had started for his home about 7 o'clock Saturday evening, and, not arriving there, search was made for him, but without success. The supposition is that he fell down the steep incline at the end of the street, striking his head on the rocks along the ditch where he was found. That side of the street is seldom traveled, and is considered quite dangerous, even in daytime.
