Notes for: Esther ("Hettie"?) Estelle Bodine

At first, I was not certain that she was the daughter of Samuel C. Bodine, but she does appear to be one of Samuel's children. She was listed in the records of the West Barre Cemetery mixed in with Samuel's family. I am assuming she is the Hettie E. Bodine who was listed in the 1900 Census of Barre, NY as born in April of 1872 and was a sibling of Mary. Joyce Cook, at her web site, lists a Esther Estelle ("Hettie") Bodine born on April 6, 1874. She died unmarried on June 28, 1959 in Atlanta. Marian Hill Parks, a granddaughter of Clarissa Bodine Grinnell, says Eshter is Clarissa's sister.

I later looked in the 1880 Census of Barre, Orleans Co., NY and Esther is not listed among Samuel's children. She must have gone by the nickname Hettie at that time.

I've seen that Hettie can be short for "Mehitable." I say that in general terms, not that I've seen this Hettie known by any other name.
