POPLAR---Mrs. Viola M. Prescott, 55, of Poplar, died Friday at St. Vincent's Hospital in Billings, of a cerebral hemorrhage. She was born June 10, 1919, in Voltaire, N.D., a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Francis P. Bodine. She grew up in Minot, N.D., where she graduated from St. Leo's High School and St. Joseph's School of Nursing. She worked as a registered nurse in Minot, Harvey, N.D., and Santa Maria, Calif. She was married to Philip Prescott on Jan. 10, 1942, in Minot. In 1950, they moved to Poplar, where she worked in the Public Health Service Hospital. In 1961, Mrs. Prescott, was named head nurse for the Public Health Clinic, a post she held at the time of her death. She was a member of Our Lady of Fourdes Parish.
Survivors include the widower; five sons, Capt. David Prescott of Lexington, Ky., Patrick of Havre, and John, Mark, and Robert, all of Poplar; three daughters, Mrs. Vernon Sandau of Wolf Point, Mrs. Wayne Jeffery of Belle Fourche, S.D., and Christine of Poplar; her mother, Mrs. Frank Bodine of Velva, N.D.; ten brothers, Francis of Minneapolis, Minn., Paul and Robert, both of Minot, Charles of Anaheim, Calif., John and Dale, both of Lisbon, N.D., Mark of Santa Barbara, Calif., Ronald of Grand Forks, N.D., William of Roundup, and Gerald of Carson, N.D., seven sisters, Mrs Emanuel Fix of Harvey, Mrs. Wesley Warlick of Boston, Mass., Mrs. Robert Bernard, St. Paul, Minn., Mrs. George Effertz, Velva, Mrs. Floyd Goetze of Eugene, Ore., Mrs. Tom McLaughlin of San Jose, Calif., and Sister Bernadine Bodine of Richardton,N.D., and nine grandchildren. Rosary with be recited at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Poplar. Requiem mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the church, with Father Peter Guthneck officiating. Clayton Memorial Chapel of Poplar is in charge of arrangements.

GLASGOW---Phillip Lewis Prescott, 89, of Glasgow, died of natural causes Wednesday, March 24, 2010, at the Frances Mahon Deaconess Hospital surrounded by his loving family. As we gather together to say goodbye we, his children, would like to share with his friends some of his history. Phil was born July 2, 1920, in Lake Andes, S.D., to William Henry Prescott and Susan Amanda Frederick. Phil was one of six children. He was warm and kind to everyone he met. He welcomed people into his home and made everyone feel accepted. He loved life. Phil was a four-time North Dakota State Golden Gloves Champion. He also won the Texas Golden Gloves Championship while in the Army. He won the North Dakota State Horseshoe Championship at the age of 21 and went on to win the Montana State Horseshoe Championship several times. He served honorably in the U.S. Army during WWII. He held a master electrician license. Phil also served five years on the Poplar Police Force. In 1942, Phil fell in love and married Viola Margaret Bodine in Minot, N.D. They had eight children: Dianne (Vernon) Sandau of Billings, Joanne (Wayne) Jeffery of Gillette, Wyo., David Prescott of Billings, Patrick (Linda) Prescott of Glendive, John (Sharyl) Prescott of Dickinson, N.D., Mark (Donna) Prescott of San Antonio, Texas, Robert (Kate) of Dickinson, Christine (Randy) Olson of Phoenix. On Jan. 1, 1983, Phil married his second love Audrey Lea Cortez in Glasgow at Saint Raphael's Catholic Church. Audrey has one son, John Pete Cortez Jr. Phil is survived by his wife Audrey; eight children and one stepson; 24 grandchildren; 53 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and one very special niece who was more like a sister, Laurayne Jensen of Great Falls. Phil was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter Ann Margaret; his wife Viola; two brothers, Clifford and Donald; three sisters, Opal, Ester and Amanda; great-grandson, Bryden Jacob and one great-granddaughter. Service will be held Saturday, March 27, at 2 p.m., at Saint Raphael's Catholic Church. Burial will be at the Highland Cemetery. Vigil will be Friday, March 26, at 7 p.m., at Saint Raphael's Catholic Church, Glasgow.
