Notes for: John Henry Bodine

I had his name as John H. Bodine, but a family member says it was John Henry Bodine. I will go with that for now.

John is 18 years old in the 1850 Census (NJ). Their son, Jacob, died of dysentery on September 5, 1866 in Delaware Township. He was 2 yrs, 4 m, and 22 days (Hunterdon County Democrat, September 19, 1866). He and Clarissa were married by John P. Moore at Silas Sherman's. He is 49 in the 1880 Census of North Plainfield, Somerset Co., NJ. He was born in NJ as well as his parents. His wife and her parents were also born in NJ.

Here is a picture of John and Clarissa's grave in Sand Brook Cemetery in Hunterdon County, New Jersey. This comes courtesy of Steven Blakely and the Sand Brook Historical Association.

And here below is a picture of their son's grave (Judson H. Bodine). It is the stone on the right. Both pictures courtesy of Steven Blakely.

There are better pictures of these stones at the Find A Grave website.

My thanks to Jeff Perine for much of the info I have on this John Bodine's children. It appears that he also received a lot of his info from a Janet Rasmussen.

I had guessed that John probably died in Sand Brook, Hunterdon County, New Jersey. However, in information received from Jeff Perine, there was a birth and death date for this John as well as a place of death: Plainfield, New Jersey. I assume this is the Plainfield in Union County. No source was given for any of this information except that it came from Janet Rasmussen. Since his wife died in North Plainfield and they lived in North Plainfield in 1880, I'm guessing he actually died in North Plainfield, Somerset Co., NJ. That needs verfication, though.

Jeff later sent me a picture of John and Clarissa's 50th wedding anniversary. This also came from Janet. There was a list included of most of the people in the picture (although I have my doubts as to the accuracy of what it says). Here is the picture below:

According to the attached lists, here are the names of the people in this picture:

There is also a list of people who attended a Bodine family reunion that took place in 1930 in New Jersey. Most, if not all, of those who attended were related to this John Bodine. See the Picture Gallery at my web site for more information on this reunion.

I later found the following summary of a newspaper article from 1928 in Trenton. This came from an Internet site related to Bucks County, Pennsylvania genealogy.

Bodine Family 7/12/1928 Bodines Held Reunion: TRENTON, July 6-The twentieth annual reunion of the Bodine family was held in Cadwallader Park.
