Notes for: Claborn Alexander Whitworth

Thomas Bodine of Boaz, Alabama believes, after an exhaustive search, that Alexander Whitworth, born about 1853 and listed on the Marshall County 1860 Census with Claborn and Hannah Whitworth, and Claborn A. Whitworth born about 1854 and listed on the 1870 Census records with Claborn and Catherine Whitworth, to be the same person. He married Amanda McDermott Sept 23, 1894 under the name C. A. Whitworth. He died either Sept 28, 1901 or 1902 since there are two copies side by side in the "Final Record" book giving the same date but a different year. It lists his widow, Amanda, and five children: D. Whitworth, Cleve Whitworth both over 14 and Maud Whitworth, Della Whitworth, and Ethel Whitworth as being Under 14. He must have been married prior to 1894 and his first wife would have died since the children could not be over 14. His grave has been located. The name on it is Claborn Alex Whitworth, which proves the research. A note from Mildred Smith Roe concerning her great-grandfather says, "He was married to a Frances Pollard according to an old Bible record." If this is true, his first wife was a Pollard and married a Garrett before her marriage to C. A. Whitworth.
