1880 (7 June) Little York Twp., Nevada Co.: Edward J. BAID 32 VT Miner, Allice E. 25 MI wife, William A. 2 MI son.

From The Woodland Daily Democrat of 17 March 1898: A lengthy article that details the gruesome death the previous day of E. J. Baird when a portable engine near which he was standing exploded and hurled him through the air and he fell 65 yards away, terribly burned. Then, "The deceased was a native of Vermont and 50 years, 4 months and 20 days old. He came to California in 1879. His first wife died, leaving a daughter, May Belle, who is now 17 years of age, and who has been living with Mrs. Atkinson in this city and attending school. On the 7th day of December, 1885, Mr. Baird married Miss Olive Mayhew, of this city. There are no children by the second marriage."
