Notes for: Gilbert (Geisbert) Bodine
Some information about this family came from www.jps.net/glad/genealogy. Write glad at jps.net for more info (as of September 1998). Their son may be David Rickoff Bodine, but that is not very certain. I originally had Giesbert and Gilbert listed separately; however, they seemed to pretty much match. Info from the Internet gives his birth year as 1761, but he was baptized in 1763. They both were listed as sons of Frederick and grandsons of Isaac.
This looks to be the Gilbert Bodine listed in the 1830 Census of Chester Twp., Morris Co., NJ. He is 60-70, his wife is 60-70 and there is another free white female in their household 15-20. I'm not sure who she is.
There is quite a bit of confusing information on the names and birth dates of Gilbert and Catherine's children. There may be a couple of Elizabeths, a couple of Janes, etc. And John and Jane are born too closely together. Take the information here with a grain of salt. There are errors in it I'm sure, but don't quite know what all they are. I will past below some information I got about this family. I think there are errors in it:

From the Presbyterian Church Historian, Chester, N.J.: Gilbert and Catherine Bodine both appear on the register of members about 1820. Gilbert was first elected an elder in 1821 and served until his death in 1838. A notation on the register of members notes that Gilbert died in August of 1838 and Catherine died in 1851.
I believe his will is 2724N Inv. 1838 in "New Jersey Wills."
Here is some online cemetery information at the USGenWeb Morris Co., NJ site that I found:

From Ronny Bodine:
North Branch (now Readington) Dutch Reformed Church Baptisms, Hunterdon County, New Jersey: 20 March 1763 Geisbert, son of Vredrick Bodine amd Elsje.
It appears likely that Gilbert Bodine and Catherine Dean married in Lebanon Township, Hunterdon County as it was there in Nov 1791 that his daughter Elsie was born, as noted in the 1862 record of her death. He also appears in the 1793 New Jersey Militia Census as a resident of Lebanon Township, Hunterdon County and on tax lists for Chester Township, Morris County from 1810 to 1818.
In a deed of 30 Nov 1803, Gilbert Bodine and Catherine, his wife, convey to Gabriel Caskhuff, of Amwell Township, an undivided one-third part of a plantation, late the property of Isaac Bodine, which was purchased by said Isaac Bodine (grandfather of the said Gilbert), one part from Volkert Doue, by indenture dated 6 Sept 1746; and another part from Isaac Van Maitre by indenture dated 1714; both tracts or parts together, contained 100 acres and was situate in Bridgewater Township, Somerset County, N.J. (Somerset County Deeds, Liber D, p. 111)
From New Jersey Federal Census Records:
1830 Chester Twp., Morris County: Gilbert BODINE males 1(60-69); females 1(15-19), 1(60-69).
1850 (13 Sept) Randolph Twp., Morris County: James M. HOPKINS 57 NJ farmer; Mariah 51 NJ; Lidia A. 24 NJ; Mary J. 16 NJ; Eliza 11 NJ; Catharine BODINE 83 NJ.
Gilbert and Catherine Bodine were buried in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Chester, Morris County.
In Memory of GILBERT BODINE who died Aug. 21, 1838 in the 77 year of his age.
In Memory of CATHARINE wife of Gilbert Bodine died Feb. 2, 1851 aged 83 yrs, 4 mos, 21 ds. Find A Grave Memorial# 12822187 and 12822194
Gilbert Bodine died intestate. An inventory of his estate was filed in Morris County in 1838. (File 2724N).
With regard to the children of Gilbert and Catherine Bodine, Theodore Frelinghuysen Chambers in his "The early Germans of New Jersey: their history, churches, and genealogies," Dover, 1895, p. 269, names the following as their children: Elisabeth, b. 1787, d. 26 Sept. 1847, m. Christopher Trimmer, s. of Jacob; Elsie, b. 9 Nov 1791, m. Matthias Trimmer, s. of Jacob; Mary, m. Monroe Hopkins; Jane, m. Joshua Salmon; William.
Other children are included by undocumented sources and these should be considered with caution: Frederick, born 26 March 1795; David, born 29 July 1800; John, born 28 Aug 1802; and a second Elizabeth, born 1807, which seems less likely considering the elder one was living, and who was supposedly married to a Corwin. This latter individual, Elizabeth Corwin, was living with the Bodine family in 1870 and 1880 and died 20 Feb 1892 in Mt. Olive Township, Morris County aged 85 years and 7 months.
For reference, here is a list of Bodines in Hunterdon Co.,, NJ which Ronny Bodine sent me:
