Notes for: Mordecai McKinney

He and Agnes had ten children. Some information says May 18 was his birth date. This could be easily checked by looking at church baptism records. He was baptized at Harlingen in East Jersey. He served as a private in the New Jersey militia in the Revolution. Info from the DAR gives his birth year as about 1750 and died in Paxton, Pennsylvania.

Hi Dave, Thanks, I get so much out of your wonderful site.

FYI: Mordecai McKinney II, b. 5/18/1727, d. 4/4/1782, Paxton, Dauphin Co., PA, (Agnes Bodine), bot Lot #1, Muncy Manor, present Lycoming Co., PA abt. 1775 ? It had been divided off by John Penn.

Their dau. Mareytje "Mary" McKinney, b. 10/5/1754, d. 1829, m. John Buckalew, who had neighboring land, with grist and saw mills. (I have a distant connection to him and can give you his history, if you want it.)

Mordecai's dau., Catrina McKinney, b. 2/12/1758, m. Cornelius Low, Jr., b. abt. 1750 ? The Low's owned various parcels around the same area. (My husband's Swisher relatives bot land from them.)

Mordecai, Cornelius Low and John Buckalew signed petitions asking for help against the British and Indians in 1777-78, citing "horrid murders". The Wyoming Massacre occurred on 2/3/1778, resulting in the "great fleeing" of settlers. After Sullivan's March in 1779, settlers were able to return, and there was a great scrambling for the lands that had been abandoned.

Mordecai, Jr. and John Buckalew eventually settled farther south in PA, and someone says that Cornelius Low, Jr. d. 10/14/1812, on Navy Isl., in the Niagara River?

Enjoy. Sarah
