Notes for: David Rickoff Bodine
David Rickoff (or "A" or "K") Bodine was listed as 41 years old at the time of the 1850 Hunterdon County, New Jersey Census (roll 453, p. 93). His wife was listed as 40 years old. He is David R. Bodine in the birth record for his son John Bodine.
Alison Wallner (AliWallner at prodigy.net) told me that David was listed on the same page (271) as a Joseph Bodine in the 1840 Census in Kingwood Township, Hunterdon County, New Jersey. She also said that in the 1830 Census for Hopewell (Township?) there is a David Rickoff listed on page 507.
The names of his twelve children, his wife (Mary Ann Higgins), and her ancestors came off a genealogy page on the Internet dealing with the Higgins family. I think his father's name was listed as Gilbert. However, he was living close to Daniel B. Bodine at the time of the 1860 Census of Trenton. He could be his brother which would make him the son of Stacy Bodine. All of these children may not be his. As of January 1999, the web site mentioned above was located at "www.faradic.net/~jcolegrove/genealogy.html". The contact person was "jcolegrove at faradic.net".
I found some other children listed at FamilySearch.com: a Hattie, born about 1851; and a Pattie, born about 1853, both "of Franklin Twp., Hunterdon Co., NJ."
His son Thomas may have married a Sarah Sutphin Wyckoff. That is just a guess, but if it is true, then maybe this David is a descendant of the Cornelius Bodine who married Margaret Sutphen.
LDS listed his parents as Peter Bodine and Mary Smith. Supposedly, they were married about 1807 in Ringoes, Hunterdon County, New Jersey. She was born on February 8, 1777 in Ringoes.
I have a Jacob and Catherine Bodine (BK#15750), John Bodine, and a Peter Bodine (from an obituary in the "Hunterdon County Democrat") who could be David's brothers. They were all probably born in Hunterdon County and I don't have parents for them.
His obituary is in the Hunterdon County, Democrat of May 29, 1867 (v. 29, no. 40, p. 1488): "In Trenton, on the 18th inst., David K. Bodine, in the 61st year of his age. The deceased formerly resided at Quakertown, in this county..." The "K" as his middle name may have been misread. It would look similar to an "A" or an "R". His tombstone appears to list his name as David A. Bodine. We will go with "Rickoff" instead of "A" or "K" for now until something more certain comes up. See more from Ronny Bodine on this below.
His tombstone also may say that he died at the age of 80, but it should say 60. This is probably a mistake in the reading.
