Joseph Bodine, 13-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Bodine of St. Mary-of-the Woods village, was killed instantly Sunday morning when he was caught between an elevator and a floor at the college. The Sisters of Providence explained the accident in the following statement: "Joseph Bodine, 13 years of age, was fatally injured Sunday morning at St. Mary-of-the Woods. The boy after serving the early mass in the convent chapel went to the workmen's dining room for breakfast. In using the freight elevator to go to the second floor he tried to jump on the moving elevator after it had passed the floor level. His foor was caught between the floor and the elevator cage and he slipped in such a manner as to sustain fatal injuries to head and body. A physician was hastily summoned, but youg Bodine died a short time after the accident. The remains were taken to the Callahan Funeral Home. The boy was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Bodine of St. Mary-of-the-Woods village and was one of nine children, one of whom is sister Janet of the Sisters of Providence, now teaching at St. Joseph's, Jasper, Ind." Surviving are the parents, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Bodine; four brothers, Robert, David, Max and John; three sisters, Sister Janet of Sisters of Providence, and Kathleen and Mary Ruth, and several aunts and uncles. The body was taken to the Callahan Funeral Home and will be returned at 10 o'clock Monday morning to the residence, where funeral services will be held at 7:30 o'clock Tuesday morning, with requiem mass at 8 o'clock at the St. Mary's Village Church. Burial will be in the St. Mary's Village Cemetery.
