Notes for: May Estelle Bodine
Margaret (Bodine) Crews said that May worked on the family tree. I later found several letters from May E. Bodine among the pension files of John Bodine of Ross County, Ohio. I don't see a link between May's line and that John, though. It seems she was just studying other Bodine lines, or possible links.
From Ronny Bodine:
Obituary, The Oklahoman (Oklahoma City, Okla.) of 8 Nov 1935.
Miss May E. Bodine, 64 years old, '89er and pioneer Oklahoma school teacher died Thursday afternoon at her home, 907 Northwest Ninth street following a four weeks' illness. Death was unexpected, since it was not thought she was critically ill. Miss Bodine had taught school in Oklahoma for more than 45 years, some of her first classes being held in a tent. She was the first school teacher in the Crooked Oak district, near the city, and had been employed in Oklahoma City schools 43 years, she had taught in Lincoln, Emerson, McKinley, Putnam Heights, Washington, Lee, Douglas, Irving and Bryant grade schools. She was given a formal farewell party by school officials and patrons when she retired in May, 1934. Miss Bodine was born in Terre Haute, Ind., and came to Oklahoma with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Bodine, during the run in 1889. She resided with her parents many years on a farm six miles southeast of the city before moving to the residence here. She numbered among her pupils some of the leading business men of the city and state. Miss Bodine was a member of the '89ers club and the Catholic Daughters of America. Surviving are two brothers, Jim Bodine, Oklahoma county assessor, and Tom Bodine, former county clerk, and two sisters, Miss Elma Bodine at home and Mrs. M. Leo, Pittsburg. Kan. Arrangements will be made at the Watts and McAtee funeral home.
