In June 1900, he was living with his mother and siblings. His birth was recorded as June 1878, but his California death record notes his birth as June 1880, which is consistent with the June 1880 census on which he is not included.

On 27 April 1942, John Francis Bodine of Scranton, Kansas, registered for the World War II Draft. He reported he was born 7 June 1880 in St. Mary's, Indiana, worked for the A & G Coal Company of Burlingame, and named Nancy Bodine as his next of kin.
In 1948, John F. Bodine was a resident of Los Angeles County, California and in 1949 lived in Compton, Los Angeles County. The 1951 city directory of Compton lists Nancy M. Bodine, widow of J. F. Bodine and the 1954 list of registered votes shows her living in Los Angeles County.
