From Ronny Bodine:
Obituary, Pharos-Tribune (Logansport, Ind.) of 3 May 2010.
ROCHESTER-- Mr. Cedric Leroy Berdine, 77, of Rochester, passed away, surrounded by his loving family, on Saturday, May 1, 2010, at his home. Cedric was born in Hebron, Ind. on Sept. 9, 1932, the son of Charles and Ida Frashour Berdine. In 1950 Cedric graduated from Hebron High School. His love of music took him to Chicago where he studied piano at the Sherwood School of Music. One year later he received his piano certificate. He was awarded a Bachelor of Arts in music from Valparaiso University and later a masters in music education from Butler University. Mr. Berdine's teaching career began in 1955 at the Fulton Schools, (now known as Caston School Corporation). His tenure of 40 years allowed for assignments of teaching while sharing his love and appreciation of music to students from K - 12, both instrumental and vocal music. An opportunity he met with grace, style and an uncanny sense of humor. He also was assigned as drama coach for the high school Dramatics Club and accompanied them during musical productions. Mr. Berdine commanded a lifetime of respect from his students, as even years after graduation his former students were consistent with addressing him as Mr. B or Mr. Berdine. On Aug. 9, 1964, in Rushville, Ind., Cedric married Barbara J. Neuman. Their union spanned 45 years and produced three children-- Aline, John and Scott. [Lengthy portion describing personal attributes omitted.]
