Notes for: Dorcas __________

Her first name is from his will. Betty Brady sent info that Dorcas' last name was possibly Van Clief. Her source was a chart made by Elmer G. Van Name on February 19, 1952. This chart was sent to her by Donna Evans, 4257 Parkhurst Lane, Spring Hill, FL 34608 [devans4 at tampabay.rr.com]. It was sent in January of 1997. The question now is what is the primary source of this information. Until that is determined, this last name should be taken only as a possibility.

GGCORALEA at aol.com lists her last name as La Forge. No source was given for that.

Subject: Last name for Dorcus, wife of John Bodine?

Hi Dave,
I'm still plodding along with Staten Island research.
Lately I've been taking a look at the Jacob Garriot who sold property to Francis Briden.
He also vanishes from the records after that sale. He would have been about 68.

Jacob Garrot/Garriot/Galliot, mentioned in the census near Hester Bodin and family, 1706.
He is listed with three women; Aritus, Margaret and Dorcus. Philip and Edward Giliert appear on a 1715 list in the area, but there is nothing that directly connects them to Jacob.

I believe Dorcus Galliot married Peter Rezeau and they had 2 known children + others:
Jacob 1715
Susannah 1717
Peter?
Ann?
Dorcus? about 1725? This would make her about the right age for John Bodine's wife.
I feel she is a strong possibility! Rezeau appears to have had property on Carles Neck about that time.

Other info on Jacob Garriot:
Is he possibly the witness on the will of John Bodine (1702) listed as "Jacob Cariot?"
What do you think?
1702 - He is also witness for will of Peter LeCount?

1680: Petition for land on north side of SI
Deed from Elias Duxbury (and Abraham Lackman) 1694
Deed from Peter Jobart 1703/4
1707 - requests permission to put a cartway through land of William Tillyer
1708 patent for property adjoining Francis Vincent
1715 - sold Carles Neck property (formerly land south of the land of Thomas Morgan) to Francis Briden.
(Note:This property was passed on to Joseph Bedle (Bedell) who, on 16 May, 1730 paid off the sum of 178 (pounds)+ to the executor of the estate of Francis Briden and Susannah, his wife. This sum was to complete the terms of an existing mortgage.) The executor was Jean Casson. BOOK B p.609

If this Jacob Garriot/Galliot did sign the early Bodine will (1702), this just adds more confusion about which John Bodine is really on Carles Neck????? Do you think there is any possibility the John Bodine on the census was John of Medis who might have been listed in 1706? Some people think it is a mixture of two censuses?

As fast as one thing clears up, another gets muddied!
Hope you are keeping yourself safe on the buying trips.
Ann
