In June 1916 he was admitted to the Montana Bar. In 1920-1930, Henning lived in Missoula, Missoula County working as a clerk in a railway office in 1920 and engaged as a lawyer in 1930. They had four children. One died in infancy. He was buried in Whittier, California.
