Notes for: James M. Bodine
They moved to Watertown, Wisconsin in 1846 and Minnesota in 1857. Frank Bodine, born in 1882, told his daughter Delores that Mary Louise Brown was from Ireland and had English customs. They came to Austin, settled in Mower County and had 21 children. Many of these died young. James signed up in Mower (Moore) County to fight Indians. Lots of the Information on this family and down came from the Cousin-to Cousin Courier, v. 25, no. 1 from December, 1980 put out by Patrick and Shirley Baughman O'Leary in Belle Fourche, SD.
His birth date might be either 1813 or 1814. I'm not sure if it is on the tombstone. James and Mary also have a daughter, Elizabeth, buried with them in St. Mary's Cemetery in Freeborn, MN. Her dates were not given at the Rootsweb database.
Here is some information from Vernon Vinzant:
Also, I don't know if I sent you the following gleaned on a trip last year: In the Terre Haute, IN, library there is an extract of records from St. Mary in the Woods Church that lists the following:
Note from Dave: Vernon said it was not clear from the information at the library whether these were actually birth or baptism records. They could be either, but they look more like baptism dates to me. They should not be used as proof of a birth date until the source of these becomes clearer.

Thus James moved to Minnesota between 1856-1860; since in 1860 census, did not die in 1857!

Subject: Connection between John M Bodine & James M Bodine
Mr. Bodine,
First of all, my compliments on a fantastic site! Secondly, I am researching my wife's family and am attempting to connect Father John M Bodine (b. 1763) with son James M. Bodine (d. 1837?) Is there some kind of documentation available to prove this? Thank you!
Sincerely,
--
